kydex sheath, glue or rivets?

Hey exs.

Unless you have a need to use glue,,stay away from it..
It's a pain in the ass and I only use it when I have to....

To fasten sheaths together either use Eyelets,, and if you can't get eyelets to work use posts and screws..

You could use those speedy rivets if you wish...

Hope this helps...

Normark I forgot if I ever asked you this but have you given any thought to supplying kydex/concealex and the associated hardware? From what I have seen, there may be a market for it. Just a suggestion. And don't forget about the shoulder rig (had to get that in

Hey L6...

The best place to get the hardware is a http://www.blade-tech.com

I've found other places to buy them as well,, but they come raw (Brass colored)

By the time you have them plated and the Black Ox put on them, you may as well just buy them from BT.

In my own business as a plater I can do my own Black Ox,, but it isn't worth it to me to do them myself...

Hugh...

I've thought about it,, and still may,, but I haven't had to many calls on it,,so I haven't bothered...
It's always an idea though,,Thanks..

You can get eyelets at Fastener Supply http://www.fastener-supply.com/ . They have black eyelets (and plain brass) for $14-17 per 1000 (black). Blade-Tech's eyelets are $10 per 100. I still get the screws, post and Concealex from Blade-Tech.

Take care,
Tom

Can you folks tell me what sizes work best for two layers of kydex?

L6, the following link is a thread where I described how I pic eyelet sizes. http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum51/HTML/000111.html . I use my eyelets maybe a little longer than I need to but my pilers still give me a good roll. GS6-6 works for the .060" and GS6-8 or 9 works for .080 (Note: I only have a die for GS6).

I don't make sheaths that often but I'm sure Eric would have the sizes off the top of his head.

Hope this helps.

Take care,
Tom

P.S. I have some GS6-6 & GS6-9 (brass)which I could mail a few off to you, to give you an idea on size. Drop me a note if interested.

Hey L6...

Thanks T-mac...

In the Size 8 range from BT

2 layers of 0.60 use size 8:8
2 layers of 0.80 use size 8:10
2 layers of 0.93 use 8:12

Small eyelets

Same as above but fall into the
6:8, 6:10, 6:12 range I believe!

When I first started this business I sourced out eyelets from different companies,,and have found several,, but they seem to be a pain in the ass to have plated,,and when you can find someone to do them,,they cost an arm and a leg....

Some of the eyelets I've seen being used on different sheaths,, are Not the same quality as what BT carries,,as they are usually thin walled,,mostly too short and Don't have a nice roll over to them....

I use the same custom made tool for both 6 Series and 8 Series of eyelets,, with equal high quality results.

Hope this helps...

I've been to that fastener supply website and I've been puzzling over what is the bare minimum of setting tools and eyelets required.

Can anyone help? GS or industry standard eyelets? Do they need washers? What is the cheapest/simplest tool for the job?
