where would be a good place to get the rivet tools used to make those nice neat flush rivets that i have on the sheaths that i buy?

Also, how do rivets compare to chicago screws? Benefits and drawbacks??
thanks

Jim,
Try http://www.siska.com/ . If the Chicago screws aren't secured with Loctite, then you can remove them easily to, for instance, make the sheath modular. You can't do that with rivets.

Do you mean rivets or eyelets? Rivets are a very cost-effective way to hold the sheath together. Eyelets, like what you run your shoelaces through on shoes, have a few advantages and disadvantages. First off, I have had a heck of a time finding hand tools for setting them, and most run in the $100+ range. Once you've bought the tools, though, the eyelets themselves are dirt cheap. They allow you to run ball chain as well as paracord through them, and they have a nice look to them when set properly.
I prefer screws for several reasons. First, they are easier to find. Secondly, no special tools are required. Third, they allow a modular design, and also one that can be opened or taken apart for optimal cleaning purposes. Also, the screws have a nice look to them. You can run ball chain through naked holes in the Kydex, but it will eventually chew up the borders of the holes, so you are better off using paracord only.

Call Edge Works they are a Siska dealer. Scott can get any type rivet (type, size, color)and machine you need. Be sure to ask about used macines as this can save you money.

I prefer rivets for construction.
I prefer sex screws for modular construction and "systemizing" a synthetic sheath.
