I know this has probably been talked about a lot, but my search didn't turn anything up.

Can anyone point me towards a good tutorial on how to make a kydex sheath? Preferably one with pictures. :) I have the one by TKS, but it doesn't make sense without pictures.
Thanks for the help.

Anyone have a tutorial for a larger knife than Anso's? Good tutorial though :D
I'll have to try it!

That's a great tutorial, and the other thread had a link to northcoastknives. (They were using a bigger knife Blgoode) I have a knife with a 6" blade, no finger guard, and I'm wondering what to use to retain the knife. It looked like anso had a little hole in his blade that he used as a retainer. I don't have anything like that. Any suggestions? i know it's hard without pictures, but I don't have any. :(

Thanks for the help guys.

It ain't a tutorial, but the multi-page gem from the Shop Talk archives linked below has a bunch of info from several different sheath makers. The info in that thread illustrates that there are a few different methodologies for making a kydex sheath, depending on how lo-tech or high-tech you want to be.

(edit to add) You could use the kydex part of the most excellent "leather over kydex" sheath tutorial from Daniel Koster linked below to make a kydex pair of pants for your blade. However, using screw clamps (c-clamps or bar clamps as used for woodworking) will give stronger & more controlled compression than standing on the kydex press as shown at the link. ;)

Without some sort of contours for the kydex to wrap around a bit and grab onto, it'll be pretty hard to get much retention built into the sheath. However, if you just want the sheath to protect the blade & the user from the blade (and not provide a lot of grip on the knife doing it), then the lack of retention becomes a moot point.

Hey,
I made one today, I'll post pictures tomorrow or mon. I ended up using a folded sheet instead of padding. It worked pretty well. any comments on this? The kydex cooled before I expected, but other than that, everything went fine.

Thanks for helpin out!
