I'm going to make my own kydex sheath. I read many tutorials, but I still don't know if epoxy coating of my BK&T C/U7 wouldn't be hurt while I will be molding {hot} kydex? Will be the scales damaged when I will form sheath on them?

Sorry for my English :)

Thanks.

I have no experience actually doing this, so don't take my word as the ultimate truth:) !

That said I wouldn't think that the heat used to form the kydex would hurt the epoxy coating or the scales. From what I undertsand you don't need to get the kydex all that hot to form it well.

I have made some kydex holsters for the Busse Assault Shaker and it didn´t damage any coating - I would say: don´t use too much heating, just enough for forming the kydex !!

nope, regular kydex heat won't hurt the epoxy coating. Not by a longshot.. Kydex will have burned up long before the coating starts to feel effects. The heat to get kydex hot is a around boiling water, while epoxy coatings are about triple that temp.

besides.. any heat to the bladecoating will be diverted to the blade itself - metals attract heat that's why metal always feels cold -. So if you keep your blade hand warm, nothing will happen.

The scales can take just a tad more heatwise I think.. you'll have to use a flame to damage those.

Have no fear, your kydex will not harm the blade.. sheaths which actually have friction with the blade will in the long run scratch the blade up. That's the price you pay for using kydex.

greetz and take care, bart.

QBI,

Just for your piece of mind I have already formed kydex around my BK&T-7.

The original sheath has a kydex insert but it is too sloppy to my liking. So I broke out the heat gun and fixed that.

You won't hurt a thing!
