Kydex Sheaths for BK9-anyone make Esee style locking Kydex for Beckers?

I'm contemplating buying a BK9 (already have two BK2's, two BK11s and an unfinished BK6 blank) however i really want a good Kydex sheath. I'd want to get an Esee 5/ Esee Junglas style sheath for the BK9. I have an Esee 5 and love that sheath design. Is the Esee locking style sheath exclusive to Esee or does anybody make a similar aftermarket sheath for the BK9? Any recommendations would be appreciated!

I'm not familiar with the Esee sheath you mentioned, but by looking at a picture I think you should look at 710 Custom Sheaths. Julio is a member of this forum and does awesome work. I have one of his sheaths for my BK 10 and it locks in nice and tight. http://www.the710customsheaths.com

Here's a pic of my sheath. He also made the micarta handles.

I originally got it with a Tek-Lok clip but have since sent it back to get a leather belt loop backing installed. Julio had it back to me in a flash.

As far as I know Blind Horse Knives (which has split up) and ESEE are the only ones using that locking system which I think is patented.

Heres a pic of the Junglas sheath (image linked from a paid bladeforums vendor so i assume this is within the forum rules, if not Mods feel free to delete).
It has a sliding button tensioner that can basically adjust the blade retention from normal to totally locked in.

This design just works! Would prefer this type sheath for pretty much any fixed blade. Seeing as how Esee and Ka-bar/Becker get along so well it would be cool to see this style sheath offered for Beckers, at least as an aftermarket option.
I wonder who officially owns the design/patent?

I've heard members say that you can use the jungles sheath to house the bk9 quite well. However I've never done it myself, so take that with a grain of salt. Anyone care to confirm?

I've done over a thousand kydex sheaths and you don't need the adjustment to make it fit the way you want. I ask my customers what they want before I build. I can make it very easy for the knife to be pulled where a slight upward tug will release it, or so tight you can skydive with it. As for adjustability, the locking system would be the way to go. I don't believe the idea is patented but I'm not sure.

My Esee 5 fits adequately secure even with the slide adjuster set on the lowest setting. If you really want lock it in so it can't be pulled or jarred out you slide it to the highest tension. At that setting it simply isn't going to come out ever . I've had one or two knives in factory kydex sheaths jostle loose when i was carrying knife-in-sheath in a backpack. Thats never going to happen with the Esee style sheath. Its nice for the user to be have the option to adjust and readjust the tension as fits the carry situation. And its a really simply design i don't see why other makers couldn't adopt it and add it to their kydex sheaths. If i was a sheath maker i'd look into whether it was a patented or license-able design.

710. All the way.

You can get a custom fit sheath for your 9 and an ESEE molle back that will fit it. Best of both words.

And ESEE Junglas sheath will fit 9 as well.

My 9,17,16,10, wear 710, and my 2 will be soon.

Thanks Moose. I was about to ask for the same help for my new BK17. (Looking for Kydex)

The BK9 does fit in the Junglas sheath, there is some wobble if you move the handle back and forth, but the kydex holds the handle in plenty secure.

However, the lock screw and spacer DO NOT work, even at the loosest setting in completely locks the BK9 into the sheath. Maybe if you got a longer screw and a spacer it would work?

I've attached a small fastex buckle to the handle and sheath with shock cord to secure the knife.

I'll 3rd or 4th The 710. I bought one of his first sheaths off that unmentionable auction site a couple of years ago, and just sent two other knives to him last week for fitting. JD is as much an artist as he is a maker of fine and functional products:

I sent a recently-acquired BK14, an old CRKT Ryan Plan B that I've had hangin' around since like '02 or so I think, and an Olight S20 Baton flashlight. Hoping he can squeeze a flashlight holder on the Eskabar sheath for a good just walkin' 'round kind of EDC package.

JD is a pleasure to work with and very responsive to whatever you request. One of the best Kydex benders around for my money, and one of the nicest guys around too!

Got my BK9 today, the stock sheath isn't that bad really, at least it fits snug. Still going to get a kydex sheath though. Thanks for the info, going to look into each of these sheath makers.
My usual knife seller was out of stock so i bought one from Amazon. The weird thing is they shipped it to me in a box that was 52 INCHES long!??? You could easily have fit three BK9's in box end-to-end in that box. I'm glad the shipping was free, lol!:D

Bwahaha! Amazon is TERRIBLE about that. We use Prime, alot, it's cheaper than Costco/Sams club for alot of stuff. The downside is the packaging! So much cardboard!

Great for edge retention testing though

Packaging is always an adventure from the big river store. I once got a small metal brace in a giant box with 72 airpacks to protect it. The $1,000 laptop arrived the next day banging around in a big box with no padding at all.
