I just ordered my first knife that comes with Kydex sheath. What is the difference between Kydex and Zytel? Is one considered superior/tougher or is it just easier to mold Kydex to the exact shape of the knife?

I believe Zytel is fiberglass reinforced. What are the properties of Kydex?

Thanks!

I believe the main advantage of zytel is that it can be injection molded, dont quote me on that, its something I read once and I've slept since then. :p

Zytel, I believe, is mainly used for grips, such as on the CS Voyager line: very tough, light, impervious to practically everything. Kydex comes in sheets and can be heat moulded. A better material IMHO, is Concealex, a bit thicker and more attractive than Kydex. Normark uses Concealex; I have two of his superb sheaths.

When I think of Zytel sheaths, I think of Fallkniven...
