My wife acquired a pair of heat-proof oven gloves called "The Ov Glove" to handle hot pans. I decided to try using them while forming Kydex for a sheath liner. Worked great! Slipped them back in the kitchen drawer, and everything is cool ;) I use a heat gun to soften the Kydex, and form it by hand around the knife. This one will have a leather covering.

That might be just the thing for hoggin steel off a rough blade to keep yer finners from burnin.;) :D

I've seen those oven gloves and they are expensive aren't they? I resisted buying them for kitchen use...but seeing how they might have another use...hmmm. The heat gun is a great idea too. The wife can hardly complain about my using her oven to soften the kydex material. She hates it when I use her oven for other non-food projects.

You just gotta try the HI Kydex pizza recipe on her. She'll swoon, and you'll be king of the kitchen :D
I had to get a heat gun for some dip-$h1t home improvement project a while ago, and now I can't live without it. Melts yer laha, and dries yer hair in a nanosecond. (No, don't try this at home.)
The Ov Gloves are a bit pricey, but gettin' the bird out of the oven on Thanksgiving has never been easier ;)
