Kyle has gotten a bit tired of the simpler knives, so he made this one.

He's liking the bolstered look and is chicken eying my fossil ivory stash. :o

Thanks for the great image Jim!

Very sweet! I love the swayback look.

This ones a beaut' too. There's been a lot of activity your shop lately.

Very nice knife.

I did not realize it was possible to epoxy bolsters on to the blade. Please explain.
Thanks
Steve

Thanks guys!

The bolsters have two hidden pins that go through the tang and partially into each bolster, press fit. Also LocTite 324 glue is used. They will not come off...

Kyles's best to date, I love everything about it. The parallel angled plunge line and bolster really give it a racey look.

Great eye and talent that Hanson kid :)

Didn't his old man used to have some talent :)

Really great knife Kyle

I think this one is a home run for Kyle. definitely a step in the right direction.
I haven't ever tried press-fit pins. There is the whole surface area of the bolster-tang interface for the glue to hold, and the surface area of the pin-bolster interface. Is there a mechanical bond that is very strong between the pins and the bolsters other than the glue, or is it just that this much surface area, complete with pins to prevent shearing, keeps everything in place?
thanks,
Kevin

That's HOT. Very nice work, and beautiful ivory in the Hanson tradition.
Interesting Damascus pattern, looks as though the pattern varies a bit from side to side.
What's the dimensions? :thumbup::thumbup:

That is a very fine looking knife it is in league all its own Kyle has some mad skills

The pins and glue work together, but the glue is more of a sealer than for strength.

The blade is 4.5" and 9" over all.

Thanks guys!

My favorite of Kyle's to date. Very nicely executed. Does Kyle know what books to pull/stones to push/traps to avoid in order to enter the secret Hanson Ivory Vault? Looks like he got in there, Dad

Wow-I like this one a lot...for several reasons. I was wondering about the Damascus bolsters, too-glad I wasn't the only one scratching my head ;). Hoping you'll put up with one more question....? I'm assuming the pins go through the tang and each bolster shares the same pin and is pressed on? If so, is the pin slightly looser in the tang so as not to mushroom one side trying to get it in? Pretty cool idea whatever the specifics and makes me appreciate the various challenges and precision needed to pull it all off. Great knife....

This apple isn't falling far from the tree. Quality, style and detail in the Hanson tradition.

Kyle, come in here and introduce yourself!!! :D

Props to Paul Long for also creating his solidifying addition.
