I got this sheath off of David Elderton of Kytac. It is sharkskin pattern kydex that he says he has only got a limited amount over the years. I added a fluted bronze stud and a static line for my style of carry. I have bought alot of sheaths for the HR's and this is a definate favorite due to his manner of construction making it very compact it is very comfortable for my style of carry. Thanks David and here are some pics what do you guy's think

Cool setup. I think I need one of those. Does David happen to go by DavidE here on the forum?

I like the patterned kydex! Looks like leather, and the IWB carry is probably my favorite, unfortunately the Busse handles are so long...

Cheers.

Superb. Where do you find these fluted bronze studs ?

My gunsmith turns them out on a lath and then flutes them. We either thread for a screw for Kydex or drill them for a rivet (like a sam brown stud) for leather. I am trying to get a buddy with a machine shop to make them in volume to get the price down . As for now they are pretty much hand done by my gunsmith. He is supposed to make me a few extra I will let you guys know when he does.

Here is a close up of a threaded one for Kydex

To avoid confusion, that sharkskin-like texture was next to impossible to get. in 12 yrs, I've only obtained 2 square yards total.

That sheath represented the very last sharkskin that I had one hand.

BTW, cool looking studs !

JParanee,

Congrats Bro, Dave does some excellent work. I have a couple of his riggs and they work excellent!!!

Nice work Dave...

I don't see any rivets.... Are the seems epoxied?

I like the folded kydex designs much more than the kydex sheaths with two rows of rivets. I like the sheaths to be slimmer. With two rows of rivets, they tend to be too wide for my preferences.

That HR and IWB rig looks very nice. Awesome even. But, that sure seems like a large knife for IWB carry to me (????).

I am becoming fond of that style of carry for my smaller fixed blades though. It is about the only functional and comfortable way (for me) to carry a fixed bladed knife concealed.

I have also wondered: Has anyone ever made a kydex sheath with a leather strip within the fold next to the edge to protect the edge? I have never seen one.

Most kydex sheaths seem to be made where the edge doesn't really touch the kydex, but I have a few that seem to inevitably rub against the kydex somewhere when inserting or withdrawing the blade..... a leather strip seems like a potentially worthy idea in some cases (????).

The more blade with in reason you have below belt line the better the knife stays put. With my build 7 inches is perfect. You only have about5 to six inches of blade in your pants or thru your belt. With stud carry you want at least that so it stays put. Try it you will see:D

that's a great looking sheath --- too bad the sharkskin kydex is so hard to come by...

I tried that very thing some years ago with my Rat Mastiff. It worked alright, but I realized that if the sheath is made correctly, it's a moot point, since the edge doesn't hit the kydex at all.
