Derek contacted me a while back about coming over to make a knife with me, and arrived yesterday morning, all the way from Bowling Green Kentucky. Today he finished up his two knives. I`m very pleased to say he did about 95% of the work himself, and they turned out very nice! I`ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

I said it before & I'll say it again......

Lucky dog!

Great looking knives Derek,congrats.

What handle material is that?Looks good whatever it is.

I really like that bottom one, but they both came out great. Mykel is right, you are lucky!

Handle material is old firehose, made into micarta.

These "mini knifemaking classes" are a lot of fun. So far only Derek and Jeff have done them, but anyone is welcome. They take between 1 1/2 - 2 days, and are actually quite relaxing. There is time to visit while the knives are tempering, and that`s when I make burgers for lunch (took me two tries, I was not paying attention the first time, and burned them to a crisp, had to try again!)

Very cool.

Nice work, kyturkey. Have they been named yet?

That is very good to know.

great looking knives, i like the firehouse micarta very well :)

sounds like one hell of a great time

very nicely done!
love the look of the firehose and the handle contouring on the larger knife looks like it will be comfy

Thanks for all the nice comments, and thanks to John for the knife making lessons/help. If I lived closer he'd probably see more of me.

They haven't been named yet. The smaller one was my entry into this years design contest, and I think turned out great!

As John said the handles are old firehose that I sent to fod to make micarta. I've got some more that I think I'll try and put on a folder.
