KZII sheath ideas?

Looking for ideas on a sheath for my KZII.

I will make one out of leather on my own, when I figure out the best approach.

I have never used snaps, so I don't have the the snap setters. I could buy them.

I was thinking about making an open back with two snap straps, but any other ideas out there for leather sheath versions that will work (and aren't overly complicated for a new leather stitcher like me).

I was thinking a big fold over pouch sheath that goes high up on the handle.

Post any sheaths you have for your KZII's or TT versions.

I love the open spine BuyBrowns.

I need a Kydex BAD and KZ sheath to match my coyote brown BB sheath for my Sarsquatch.

What else is out there.

I think to make a sheath for KZ2 is more technical challenging than to make one for KZTT.

I've seen the large pouches your talking about doing but, to me, they always come out looking very big and bulky. The open spine design works very well for khukri knives because of their severe recurve.

Here's a good example of an open spine sheath I did for another manufacturers khuk. The single strap only really works on certain khuks, on some it will let the blade come out a little so a second strap is necessary farther down the spine.

Here's a dangler style sheath for the TTKZ, similar set up as the previous. A sheath for the KZ2 would be similar, just a little different profile.

I know a guy :)

On the leather sheath;

What if you do a stitched all the way round, and do a lot of form work around the handle, be careful not to follow the re-curve or you will cut through the leather. Kind of like Brian of Okuden does his kydex sheaths.

A open spine will work great but you have to use snaps.

Hope this helps from a kydex bender.

If you want kydex let me know I can hook you up Brother ;)

I am trying to convince my wife, that a coyote brown BB sheath for my BAD and my KZII is what I need for Christmas from my mother in law. I have $100 or so I need to pick a present to fill the gap from her. She specifically told my wife that I can't buy "weapon related" stuff with it, but I think I can convince her. I could order them and have them sent to her house.

I may have to get back to you on that.

As to open back designs in leather, I think it would be actually simpler than trying to do a fold over up on the handle, but I don't have any snaps or snap setting tools.

Thanks for those pics. Maybe I just need to break down and order some heavy duty snaps and snap setting tools.

It would open up new designs for me. I also need to place an order for some more metal clips for pocket sheaths (I used some on 3 sheaths, but two of those knives have moved on with the sheaths). I need to order some more clips, so maybe I should order some snaps and snap setting tools too.

Where do you get good quality heavy snaps?

I know knifekits.com has them, but I don't know what the quality of the snaps is.

I have non-weapon related CTR stickers I designed that I sell ? :)

E-mail me I think I have a snap setter you can use or you can go to Tandy Leather now called the leather factory & get some they are cheap, maybe 20.00 for a set of snap setters & snaps ?

I used to live just up the hill from a Tandy store in Spokane WA, but I moved to a tiny town now, and of course, no leather store!

I have a nice big roll of leather just waiting for me to mangle it, but wanted some better ideas before I cut up the leather.

Of course, no matter how nice of sheaths anyone posts, mine will look like a lump compared to them.

I can't draw the designs first, because I can't draw.

I can't measure the pattern or trace it very well on the leather anyway, and I can't really cut very straight either.

I basically have just eyeballed every sheath I have made so far, and then left a bit of extra to trim off later.

My most recent sheath, and the first big one I have made (I think it was officially number 5 sheath) for my B11 has a super thick welt. I planned on trimming more off, after stitching, but then just left the welt wide like that for more protection from cutting through. There is enough room on the welt for me to go back and make a second line of stitching further in.

That sheath looks awesome.

Here's one from Chuddy Bear. Slides in & out great, and is very secure with the double snap strap.

The line 24 snaps that Tandy sells are good stuff, nice and strong. The setter kit they sell is very good, I've been abusing mine for nine years now and its really holding up well. I'll look up the catalog number tomorrow for you. :) The new pocket clips they have now are good as well, just avoid the 1/2" wide ones, they are rather weak.

Jaxx, that Chuddy sheath is nice! :)

Great sheaths so far. I think I will have to order a snap set from Tandy.
