L Brand Forge Coke

Have any of you tried using this stuff? I can get a coal fire going no problem, but this stuff I can't even get going. I make a huge bonfire, put the coke over top, they start glowing, but once the heat from the fire is gone, the coke dies down. I've even tried holding a torch to the stuff and can't get any success.

It is like the stuff doesn't want to get to the point where it puts off heat, instead of taking heat in.

I think the key here is more air. Metallurgical coke is very pure stuff and since there aren't really any volatiles to speak of to help keep it lit, you need a constant air blast to keep it going.

I had so much air that the smaller pieces were flying out of the forge.

Nvm. Finally got it going. Had to start the fire with coal first, then add the coke on. :yawn:
