I am going to a gun show tomorrow (or Sunday afternoon if I don't get some work done around the house).

I expect a dealer there will have a hawk that he says is a replica made for the anniversary of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. I looked at it last show. It is marked "L&C" and "1805." The dealer professes to know nothing about the item. He won't let me take it out to chop. Seems to be carbon steel. Has nice balance. The head weighs just at 1.5 pounds according to a powder scale.

I found one hit on Google, but that dealer also says he can supply no info that would go to quality. (Most of his stuff is tourist chap.)

Without some reason to think it's not junk, I'll pass.

Anyone know anything about these hawks.?

I live in Harpers Ferry. A lot of " sutlers" try to make a profit on the L& C Bi - Centinneial. They are pimps. They charge 3 or 4 x's the real price. I don't want to see you get ripped off. Get a H& B or a
Ft Turner. More Questions ... just ask. IMHO

Howdy Thomas,

They're from India. The dealer North West Knives had tons of them about 1/2 a year ago. They were made up as souveniers(sp?) for a special event in Oregon. The some people running the event did not like the idea of selling tomahawks to folks, so the idea was scrapped, and they were given to Goodwill. Goodwill in turn sold most(all?) of them to NW Knives.

He was selling them in the $20-25 range.

A lot of the pipe tomahawks being sold these days are made in India and Pakistan ...in fact, I'd say the majority of them.
Unless it specifically says the hawk is forged in the USA ...it isn't.

I got a couple of these the other day at a gun show in Tulsa, OK. They seem to be alright. I don't think that it will replace my Cold Steel 'hawk on my 782 gear, but for display and throwing it looks alright. The guy that I bought mine from had one sharpened up for throwing and had pictures of it not exploding on impact and he had all of his arms and legs. At $50 for two, it seemed a good deal to me.

My brother bought me one of these at a flea market, I'm not for sure what he paid for it. It appears to be cast and i'm not sure of its edge holding ability. I fitted it to a walking stick I made. I may not chop into a tree with it, but I'm sure it will put a dam-dam on snakes and wild dogs.
Thanks, Kenenth
