I took the day off to care for my wife and daughters who are all sick. Since they are asleep, I thought I would post a bit on my newest.

When considering this little fixed blade I was afraid it would be to small. The fact that it does not have a lanyard hole made me skip it over more than a few times. However, thanks to ~ P, Brian, and Dan, and their pictures and praise, I decided to try one out.

Opening the box it is not as small as I thought it would be. I was expecting a 3 fingertip style of blade, but surprisingly I can get 3 on securely and 4 on just enough to call it a 4 finger grip for me. I do have small to medium hands however. I would bet most would feel it was a secure 3 finger grip. It is hair popping and actually has really nice ergonomics to it. I have tried the BRKT PSK and the difference in handle shape on the Patriot really makes a difference.

Here's a few pics of it compared to the GEC 73 for those considering it. I decided to compare it to a folder for those who haven't carried a small fixed blade.

Nice one, kinda reminds me of Schrade's PH1 & 2 series knives.

Nice, I've been looking at those too. Since you mention it, I'd love to see it next to a BRKT PSK :)

I hope you don't mind me posting this here, KBA...
I did a similar comparison shot a while back when I was selling a spare Patriot, except I used a GEC 15

Thank Glenn. In all honesty I have not heard of the Ph1/2 and am glad to learn of them.

Jim, I sold th PSK some time ago. From what I remember without looking up the spec the PSK is smaller all around but I could be wrong. Maybe someone and drop in a pic or two that has both.

I don't mind at all HH. Love wood and grain to yours.

Thanks for the pics and sharing your thoughts.

I must admit to being befuddled by these small fixed blades. Why? Unless you have a physical handicap of some sort, I don't understand why anyone would choose the Patriot over the 73? In the closed position, the slipjoint is smaller and less bulky. Much more convenient to carry. In the open, the 73 has a larger and more comfortable handle. Unless I'm missing something, a folder seems to have an overwhelming advantage over a small fixed blade. Of course it might be as simple as you liking a knife, in which case I totally understand.

Agreed. No real need. I just enjoy them. In all reality a 73, a puukko, and a nice size Khukuri are all I need. ;)

The fixy is cool and all, but I want to know more about that 73! That thing is awesome!

Tidioute 735109 with a corset shield. Came in smooth ivory bone and bocote wood. There is a liner-lock version for each as well. Thanks again Will for helping me complete the set.

Not sure how I missed that one! That would fit right in to my 73 collection and smooth ivory collection... A new search is on!

Back to the thread at hand... That little fixed blade would be really handy as a boot knife. I carry one similar that I put together using a blade from a supply shop in Houston and some polished stag scales. About to assemble another one that's a tad bigger with some natural micarta handles. I'll definitely have a look at these though. The proportions look perfect

I just now saw this thread. Excellent comparison, Brett. I too have skipped over the Patriot figuring it to be too small. Seeing it next to the 73 and 15...I still think it's a bit too small for me. :p

I did spend a couple minutes looking and contemplating, though. If it had another 1/4" - 1/2" of handle I think it'd be right in my wheelhouse. LT makes a great knife, and I have no doubt that anything coming out of that shop is going to be top-notch.

LT and company make a fine knife. The Patriot is a great EDC fixed blade.

Great little knife, probably one of my favorite offerings from L.T. Wright. If I hadn't already had a BHK Nessmuk Necker I'd of picked one up. If the Patriot used thinner stock like the Nessmuk Necker I would of anyway.

Great choice Brett! Glad some us could help in the decision. :D

I find same thing with been able to squeeze on 4 fingers when doing some aggressive cutting and I want a firm grip on the knife and even still it remains very comfortable.

I also find having that very sharp squared away spine very useful for scraping n such.

Keep on enjoying that great little blade.
