I'm kicking a few idea's around in my head and I was wondering if anyone knows if L6 will show a decent hardening line (hamon)?

I haven't done it with L6, but I have done it with 15n20...Similer carbon content...???

When you say hamon I assume that you mean that you will apply clay to the spine and quench in water, not just edge quench. If you are going to do that way you can achieve a hamon on L6. The hamon will not be very pretty or very elaborate. Howard Clark uses L6 for his blades and they are very tough but are not near as pretty as his 1086 and forge folded katanas. So it will show a visible hamon, it just wont be as pretty as some of the others.
