Some steel websites mention L6 and O6 as having excellent edge retention, but they do not seem to receive much discussion or use in the knives mentioned here.

So, for those that have used them, how do L6 and O6 compare to 10V for edge retention and use for a hunting/skinning knife?

Here is an example:

Thanks.

Neither are even close to 10V. L6 is known for its toughness more than edge holding, I would group it more with Stella like 52100, 01, S7, etc. As far as O6, I hadn't heard off it before, but here's a quick thread about it http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/334009-O6-steel, seems to be not that great, it's missing the primary ingredient to being a high wear resistant steel: Vanadium. I read a few more of the steel descriptions from that link, kind of weird/odd bar if you ask me, like the description of 3V being ok at toughness and edge holding, ats-34 being a super steel, gin-1 having excellent edge holding, but especially O6 being near the top for edge holding, not sure where they got their info, but I'd go to other sources to learn about steels.
