Does anyone know anything about this steel such as the makeup and what its comparable to. Also what would be good uses for this kind of steel in the knife world? Thanks

It's TOUGH ! Best used for impact blades - choppers. .75 C, .70 Mn, .80 Cr, 1.5 Ni,.30 Mo

It is pretty nickely, that is what adds to the toughness. It is comparable to O1 in heat treatment. It has been said to be a good all round knife steel, a big chopper or a hunting knife.

I have a katana made from L6 bainite by Howard Clark. And it's probably one of the toughest swords I've trained with. Very springy, and when properly heat treated it's almost unbreakable.

Extremely tough steel that'll rust if you look at it the wrong way. Great for choppers, hackers, and swords. But you gotta take care of it.

The small game knife I have is great. It takes a wickedly sharp edge but, like said you have to take care of it.

Originally used in bandsaws, and what everyone else has said. Howard Clark made famous (pioneered? ) heat treatment of this steel into bainite, instead of the more common martinsite crystaline structure. Bainite isn't quite as hard but is incredibly ductile.
