Hey everybody,

This is my first post outside of the general knife discussion. Just wanted to know if anyone knows where I can find LAX knife laws because I know they have been cracking down there lately. I just want to carry a Spyderco Experimental (less than 2" blade). If any LEOs are here I would love your input. Thank you.

Personally I wouldnt try to carry any type of knife into any airport. If you just want to take it with you on a trip, stick it in your luggage. Thats what I do.

Recently, I've had guards tell me flat-out, "there are no knives allowed." Nothing about size or shape--just no knives at all. Whether that's written in a lawbook doesn't really matter at the gate.

On a trek to L.A. in November, I came through security at LAX on my way back to SeaTac. I carry a Benchmade 820 (2.9" folder with no evil black finish or serrations). Security dude opened the blade and compared it to the long edge of his ID card. Closed the blade and handed it back. Looked like a 3.25" blade mighta been kosher, but a 3.5" blade very likely would NOT.

Stay away from the serrations and black finishes and you'll be fine. And it's best to stay under 3" at airports these days. Others have reported similar experience at other airports.
