La Griffe hole size question

I love my Emerson La Griffe, and now that I've owned one for a while, I find that a question keeps nagging me... "With my knuckle flexed, it won't fit in the ring where I want it to, right at the joint, so I'm wondering if it is supposed to be this way and the knuckle should instead be placed either in front of, or in back of the ring while gripping the handle, or if it's not, can the hole perhaps be enlarged?" I've played with the positioning and find that placing the flexed knuckle in back of the ring is better overall, but when I've practiced "grabs," I've dropped the knife a couple of times. With the knuckle in front of the ring, it is very secure, but the knife doesn't feel comfortable to use for "utility" purposes. I'm thinking of opening the hole up slightly to accommodate my fat knuckle, but I wanted to get some feedback before doing that, and if it is recommended to go ahead and open it up, should I open the hole up elliptically? And if so, should it be toward the handle or toward the blade? Thank you for your input.

Since I received no answers, I went ahead and enlarged the hole slightly with a dremel, and now no problem--knuckle fits perfectly.
