I just got the LaGriffe and this is an awesome little knife! The sheath isn't that great but the knife is excellent!

The blade is thin and the chisel grind is quite sharp. The knife is light and felt good in my hand. I have relatively small hands but my friend with larger hand also claims it's comfortable.

This will definitely be a great back up blade and I'll have to start training with it.

Compared to Perrin's LaGriffe the knife is a lot lighter, smaller and less substantial in the hand. Nonetheless, it's a quick knife that I would definitely depend on.

I am rather impressed with this knife. It doesn't have the hand forged personality of Fred Perrin's knives. The steel and finish are better though. The price is alos more attractive. I have practiced some draws and gone through my limited arsenal of cuts, transitions and punches. The size of the knife makes it very much a defense only knife for me. I have taken an idea I got from Fred Perrin at the Blade show, make a clip for the sheath and set it up for inside or outside waistband carry and a reverse grip draw. He said it is very quick out of the waist band and a fast upper cut cut or cross would make a wicked cut. I am defintely going to work on that.

Now for what I would consider the ultimate La Griffe. Make one out of titanium and sharpen like a Crawford neck knife. No need for a carbide coating as on the Benchmade titanium CQC-7. Since this would be a back up blade meant for defense, you wouldn't need to worry about edge retention. I have one of the Crawford's and it has an extremely sharp edge.

Dirk,

That sounds very interesting. I think Emerson did make a titanium neck knife.

About the clip, what kind of clip was attached and how was it done?

Sincerely,

Jason Yang

Jason,

The clip is just a straight piece of Kydex folded over with the typical little tab bend at the end to keep it in place on the waist band. Then there are a couple of holes drilled through a fold of the clip and in the sheath. Either a couple of screws or rivets to keep the clip in place. This way it will actually clip over the band or the belt as opposed to making a loop that you would need to feed a belt through.

You mean Emerson made a titanium La Griffe? I would love to get one of those. The Crawford titanium is a great knife and you don't even know you are wearing it. I just like the idea of the finger hole. I have had my hand slip forward a couple of times and almost received some nasty cuts. All of the knives I consider defensive blades have a secure finger notch or guard. With my grace and dexterity, I need all the help I can get.

The LaGriffe is definitely the ultimate hold out knife. I think the custom version was called the Tiger Claw and was only available to the Spec Ops crowd.

Without going into details, I went to a trendy NYC club last night which had multiple ID checks and swipes plus metal detector and full frisk.

No problems getting in!

Jason

Fenris,

I also live in NYC and am sometimes subject to metal detectors and such. Out of curiosity, were you carrying anything else besides the griffe that went undetected?

doesn't seem to be much difference between this custom Tiger Claw and the Emerson La Griffe.

HEllo,

The Emerson version of Fred Perrin Griffe is a real beauty.
Its Raptor blade is not often made by fred which prefer his classic version.
But for the price you can check if you "feel" that neckknife too.
I think it's a must for real martial artists as you CANNOT be disarmed ...

Cheers,
JM

If any of you do make another sheath for the La-Griffe please let me know. I would love to have another way to carry the knife. I also agree it would be great to have a knife school on the east coast.

I believe Emerson is making some La Griffe's in titanium, i should have some in stock soon.

they will be an emerson custom. they should run in the neighborhood of 300.00

I was fortunate to buy a titanium La Griffe this summer. It is a custom piece...I bought it from Arizona Custom after the Solvang (I'm pretty sure it was the Solvang Show) Show. It is light, and everything else that one would want and expect it to be. As always, Ernie's custom pieces are special. With all the controversy and the blah, blah, blah, IMHO, they are a notch above the rest of the crowd.

Jackstraw, does it have the carbide coating on the edge as the BM titanium CQC-7?
