La Griffe's and their edges

After using my first La Griffe, it finally came time to do alittle edge maintenance. I was using the Spyderco 203 and was getting good results on only part of the edge. Curious as to why, I put some marker on the edge and went back at it. Only a small portion of the edge was touching the stone. I checked my other steel La Griffe and My ti La Griffe. They had the same problem. Apparently when I was working free hand I was able to conform the this change in the blade. I t would seem the edges on all 3 of LG's were steeper towrd the point. No wonder I had a heck of atime getting them razor sharp. I decided the alter the angle. Instead of working hours on a stone (I am not very patient) I got out the Dremel tool and proceed to reduce the edge that way. I changed the angle very slightly and evened it through the entire edge. I cleaned up the burr that formed by using a fine triangle stone and lightly stropping the burr against the stone. After that, i went to the course stone and brought in a good edge and finished with teh fine. It worked! Much sharper than factory and through the entire length of the blade. I tried it on the ti La Griffe. That worked amazingly well. The ti will never be a scalpel, with the carbide coating, but I improved it will cleanly take hair of your arm with only a bit of drag.

I may get even more daring and try reducing the edge further on a steel La Griffe. Be interesting to see what happens. I don't think it would be wise to take the ti La Griffe any further, I wouldn't want the carbide coating to be the ONLY part of the edge.

I typed this as I was getting ready for work. Sorry about the spelling and other errors. There seem to be more than my usual alotment.

i am amazed that you can get the edge of these puppies any sharper than out of the box. my compliments on that; i was amazed at how sharp my lagriffe was when i first tried it out. yeah, baby, YEAH! this raptor toe was made for one thing in my mind - chasing away bigger dinos than itself. and i have a deal going through with Chiro75 for a sheath for IWB. yes - i am Batman! okay, but can i just pretend for a little bit? oh, i hear my wife calling me - time to go do some manly-man work (damn dishes!).
