So I was able to hit 4 out of my 5 flea markets this holiday weekend, but the one i missed is my favorite, but oh well, cant get to em all. Was able to pick these up though :

I was pretty happy with these, as most are not duplicates of what I already have.

Couple of the ones I worked on today are -

Here is the first one - and based off of a couple of my recent posts I was happy to find it, for $4....

So I got to work on it - I thought it had some promise overall - especially seeing it was painted black -

Here is what I had to deal with in the eye - a double metal wedge - nothing major - but took some time -

Here it is out and clear - and you can see the haft slit isnt all that awesome looking -

So time to get to work and see what we can do -

After some work here is what the head looks like -

I am pretty happy with this Collins - I think it turned out well. Is it a stellar holy cow cant leave home with out it piece? No. But its a keeper.

Another one that is more interesting is -

Maybe you can make it from this pic -

Here is the handle on it - as you can see from this pic and the other one - it is suspect - it has some fungus growth on it - pretty gross - not sure whats up with it - but it has the logo on it - which i know nothing about - but will find out -

Here it is all cleaned up - a keeper for $5

Yeah it is rough, poll ground down, but the bit hasnt been used at a minimum, which is nice. I see on Councils booklet that came with my Velvicut they boast that they give 1 inch of hardened bit - while the Sager chemical has 2.5 inches.......

And on to the others -

A double bit -

Jersey is a Kelly Works - similar to a Kelly Perfect - not sure how similar - this looks like a worker for sure -

Mike, nice haul. Wish I had 1/2 the honey holes you have. Maybe if you passed on a couple they could make it out west :)

What a haul.

Bunch of eye catchers there. As much as I like the Collins hatchet I'm even more intrigued by the Genuine Plumb. I'm not used to seeing the 'Genuine' in the box with the 'Plumb'. Do you have a date on that one?

I'm still hopeless with patterns. I would have guessed that True American was a Kentucky, from the narrow flare going up as well as down. But I can see it's got the wedge shape of a Jersey.
Anyway, great haul.
Maybe I find fewer varieties of axe in MI because our pioneer period was over in a flash and it didn't take a mature timber industry very long to cut over the state.

Nice haul Operator. Wish we had flea markets around here. One has to 10 garage sales or so to find one axe / hatchet.

Nice finds and great clean-ups, Mike. I especially like the SB Sager Chemical. Also, I have the exact same GTW framer's hatchet.

Take care,

Matt

Great finds for sure.
I was visiting my sister in VT over the weekend and after we poked around a flea market for a few hours, I came out with a nice Collins Legitimus and a small "boys size" interesting axe stamped SKODCO. I threw a vintage Collins handle on the Legitimus, as the handle it came with was aftermarket. Haven't got around to taking pictures yet.

You just happened to have a vintage Collins handle on hand? I wish I could be so lucky. Great to hear of an old axe and old handle being reunited. Please do post pics when you get the chance.

Nice finds. I missed Brimfield flea this past week. Probably just as well.

I found the same handle (company) on a plumb I picked up at Liberty Tool. I was able to save it. Will see how it turns out when I rehang it.
