I'm a little late posting these, but I've been pretty busy. My wife is out of town for the weekend and I have some time to kill, so I thought I'd post a couple pics from our Labor Day Weekend trip. I went with my wife, daughter and a friend of my wife's from work. This trip was outside of Ketchum/Sun Valley, ID. The drive up was great as was the trip. We just car camped in a small state campground. We were able to have a fire, which was nice considering usually by this time of year, there are fire restrictions in place. The fire was welcomed, because we were camping around 7500 feet, and it got pretty cold at night. We got down to about 35 on the second night, and we got hailed on as we were packing up the gear.

Here's a look back towards Sun Valley as we were heading out of town.

Here's the camp.

This is where we started our hike. The trail head started with a creek crossing. I managed to negotiate my way across the creek hopping rocks, but the girls elected to take off their shoes and wade the creek instead. They said the water was cold, but it felt good because it was pretty warm when we started out.

This is a shot of the creek with some pretty cool mountains in the background. I think that's the backside of "The Devil's Beadstead".

Here are the girls on the way up.

Here's my wife and daughter with the pup. I cropped a closeup of the pup below.

Here's a closeup of our pup. I got two funny action shots on this trip. This one makes him look like a mad beast on attack.

Here he is with his tounge wrapped around the side of his head!

This is a shot I took on the way up the hill.

Here's some obligatory knife content. My Satin Jack TAC next to a tree with some pretty heavy bark. If I had to guess, it looks like a redwood, but I don't think we have any of those in Idaho. Anyone want to take a guess?

This just shows some of the cool mountains we were surrounded by on the hike.

This was a creek we were walking next to on the trail up. At a couple points, the creek was in a fairly deep ravine.

Another shot of my SJ TAC.

This photo shows some of the interesting contrast between the mountains. The one we hiked was dense evergreens. This shot shows another mountain in the distance that looks like a tall heap of crushed stone without any trees.

This is a shot of the girls on the way back down the hill. This bridge was pretty cool, and the dog stood still long enough to take the shot.

Not for the faint of heart, my wife and I saw this HUGE insect flying right at us on the interstate heading home. There was nothing I could do. Collision was inevitable...in slow motion. I think everyone yelled out a loud "EEEEEEOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!" when it hit the window and splattered all over my (just cleaned) windsheild and wedged itself up under the wiper. We didn't take measurements, but I'm sure it was a state record. My wife took a photo to document the occurance, and I'm obliged to share it with you guys =).

We've had a great summer, and have done a fair amount of hiking. We really enjoy Idaho. Looking forward to some more fall hiking/camping/hunting trips! =)

Great pics. Looks like some beautiful country.

I keep trying to visit Skunk to see some of Idaho, but the coordinates he gives me never seem to work out. Last time, I wound up in Albuquerque.

Absolutely BEUTIFUl! We do not have hills like that here in FL. The highest point is 345 feet above MSL.

Thanks for sharing your pics.

Great pics!! Thanks for sharing your time in the woods.!!!

Great pix, thanxx for posting them!!:thumbup:

Holy mother of God... Did you ever ID that bird... I mean BUG?? ... I think its big enough to eat a robin!!:eek: Yuck! :D

Is that the Chemeketan area?

That's close by, but we were probably 75 miles or so south and east of there.

Glad you guys liked the pics - great time.

As far as the bug goes, I had to stop into a Fish and Game check station and they were trying decide if I needed to have a special tag for that bugger......really have no idea what it was, but it was huge.
