I'm lacing a sheath for the first time and using 1/8" leather lace of unknown origin, looks hand made due to the varied lengths and uneven width. Well into the sheath the lace broke, using a simple whip stitch so I need a source for acceptable lace. Kangaroo? It's expensive but I can't afford to keep breaking lace. Anyone with experience and recomendation?
Thanks Mark

Don't let broken lace upset you. It's easy to splice it together. In fact, you should be using short lengths (3-4 feet) to do your lacing anyway! Using longer laces forces you to pull lace repeatedly through the lacing holes, causing a lot of friction on the lace, often causing it to fray. To splice the lacings, measure where the cut point will work out to be on the back side of the piece and skive it at 45 degrees or less. (I like to use about 30 degrees to make a wide contact point.) Skive the end of the new piece to match, apply some Barge cement (or any other good contact cement,) and glue together. Continue lacing your project. The whole trick is to be sure that where you have spliced it works out to be on the back side of your project.
