Lack of love for the 7!

The lack of love has been hurting poor little Stephanie's feelings! So tonight, I gave her a work out! Yes we all know what the trainwrecker can do, and yes we know "everybody needs a king", and yes the crewman is the new kid back on the block... But where is the love for the 7! Tonight, we FEAST!

Upon deciding what I was going to have, I had to decide what I was going to use, I pulled out the candidates:

The crewman was TOOOOOOO small, the king was TOOOOOOO big... Stephanie (hence forth in this thread called Goldilocks) was JUST right!

Off to work we went, "Mr. Deville, I'm ready for my close up!" (Yes it's probably a reference only Tradewater will get... He starred in several "silent pictures" that too this day they are trying to make hush up!)

Like buttah! Wait... That's not buttah, that's ribs!

Supper is served!

Looks damn good. Love the cottage fries too. I don't dislike the 7 per se, just never felt a need for one.

I've got a 7 that hasn't seen the light of day in over a month. That has got to change!

So, in my house, tomorrow is BK-7 day all day long!!!

Thanks Cbear. I'll try to take a few pics and add them to this thread tomorrow.

It never occurred to me to deep fry ribs and pork loin(?)

After my physical, depending on the results, I might try this.

Oh, and I might get a 7......sometime

Nice! I just got my 7 and am itching to break it in and give er a workout. Nice wood handles bsmith!

Looks good, CB! I really do like the 7, but since I etched and gifted mine away, I've not replaced it. Some day it'll happen, because it really was a good knife. I dare say, all the Ka-Bar F/U should be and then some!

I'm still not sure if I want a 7. I started a thread about it but everyone told me to get a 5 instead. :torn::indecisiveness::chargrined:

Not instead, in addition to.
Thanks MrN8.

TdHurl, I'm a fat guy with a fryer, what do you expect except I'm going to try to fry everything!

Jumping on the "fans of the BK 7" wagon! I just got mine last week and it is a wonderful blade and the size to me is perfect! I am actually thinking that the 7 will fit my needs for a big blade going forward so i doubt i will add a 9 to my collection.Yes the king is the king for a reason, but at my house the 7 is king of all blades.

You need a 7. You can't not have a 7 ;)

It's an awesome blade and about the perfect size for most needs, unless you want a heavier chopper. Paired with a 3-4 inch blade like the 14 or 17 its the perfect woods combo.

Well, I've been not having a 7 for quite some time now. And if I need a 7" blade I have this to get me through until I break down and buy one. Just finished it yesterday.

I'll break down and buy a 7 when everyone else sees the light and gets a 9.

I had my 7 for around nine months before I really used it at all. Then once I did, I was surprised at how much I liked it. The 5 is still my favorite Becker, but on my last week-long campout last month, the 7 spent at least twice as much time on my hip than my 5 did. It's the right size for a do-anything belt knife. It chops reasonably well, batons decent-sized pieces of wood, is light enough to whittle and feather with, and is a tough beast of a blade.

The only thing I kept wishing for on the 7 was is a choil. I didn't used to be a fan of choils, but after using one for a year and a half with my 5, 15, and Esee-3, I'm starting to change my mind. The thing I like about choils on a big knife is that you can put your hand right in the middle of the balance point and work for a long time without your hand fatiguing. The 5 is one of the easiest big knives to work with because of that choil, and I think the 7 would benefit from the same treatment. I'm thinking of grinding a choil into my 7 by replicating the choil on the 5. It'll mean taking off the nub on the guard and losing some of the edge, but I'm sure I'll like it even more that way.

I've been thinking about choils and really how useful they are/can be. I think you are right the 7 could benefit from one!
