Lack of Response from SYDERCO to e-mail request

I recently purchased a Velie SPYDERCO knife which has a shiny chrome pocket clip.
In the space of 3 weeks I have had people ask, "what is that in your pocket"?
Although I have luckily not had adverse reactions to me carrying the knife, I do not
like the attention. I tried to contact SPYDERCO though e-mail, requesting to BUY a
black replacement clip (as on large Calypso) with 3 black screws. SPYDERCO has
not answered my e-mail. I am disappointed at the lack of response / interest
from a company who's products I have spent my money on.

1) Has anyone else had a problem with the "visibity" of a shiney pocket clip?

2) Has anyone else had a problem getting a reply from SPYDERCO?

I would appreciate feedback. I posted a similiar message in the "All Topics Forum".

Thank you.

Greenie - Spyderco is usually pretty good about responding. You might try again or give them a call. Black clips for the Viele shouldn't be a problem.

Greenie,

I got a black clip replacement from Spyderco way back and was mentioned in a thread.

I have not found nor heard of people having much problem in getting a response from SpyderCo. On the contrary, the general attitude is that Spyderco is one of the best. I think this forum alone attest to that. At the same time, this forum generates some many "wants" and requests that I think Spyderco must have seen an increase in their email and telephone volumes. I am sure it's a challenge to keep up. And yet they try. The fact that Sal responds directly to these things is reflective.

I kinda think we should keep things in perspective if we find somethings slower than we may like. Also, try calling directly.

Greenie, I think a little patience is in order. Spyderco has an excellent customer service department but they are kept extremely busy by all of us Spydernuts. An alternative to a new clip would be to get some black heat shrink tubing to slide on your clip and then fire up the hairdryer.

i like the shiny clips, am I the only one? There just seems something more elegant about it than black. sure black has its moments (I really like the ones that are black with the gold spydie, those rock)

my CF Dragonfly has a really nice shiny clip, and it's one of my favorite to carry. but everyone i'm around is so brain-dead, they never notice the clips, even when there are 3-4 on me

just my .02

as for your other concern, i've never heard of anyone having problems with Spyderco customer service. but there's always that .01% that gets lost out in the void by accident. I'd give em another chance, or try calling them directly, which prevents the message from getting lost

My fault!
We are relocating the customer service office, and lost several days response time in the process. Not the norm, for sure.
Greenie, I looked back for quite a few days and did not see your request. Please send it again, or call me direct at 1-800-621-1065 and we'll do some clip chattin'

Hey TM,
I can't believe I've run into another forumite that actually LIKES shiny bright clips. I'm with you my friend. I think they add a touch of elegance to my Spyders. Both my carry Militarys have them and I wouldn't think about trading the bright clips for black. I've never been a "tactical" OR "politically correct" type of guy. If someone notices the bright clip protruding from my pocket, I'm always more than happy to pull out the knife and show it to them PROUDLY.

Hey, Tom & Gene, I'm with you. I like the shiny clips. The only problem that I have had was a movie theater thinking that I had a pager on. As to what others think, they occasionally ask and I am happy to show them. Besides, they don't show the occasional ding quite so much.

greenie,

Well, by all appearances, you've received quite a few good responses on this thread you've started. There are, indeed, several "good suggestions" by other forumites.

Sing,

I most definitely have to agree with you regarding your praise of Spyderco customer service policy/practice (its "top notch").

phantom4,

I, undoubtedly so, have to agree with your assessment as well.

TomMarker, Gene, & FullerH,

It appears we are all "on the same page" here regarding the shiny clips. I do believe they can look quite elegant on most models, yet I also appreciate having an option ("Variety is the spice of life!").

djo62,

Danelle Joyce O'Shea...that was very "BIG" of you (to shoulder the blame essentially caused by us "SpydieNuts").

I prefer the polished stainless clips myself. They look better after long and hard usage. Even the best black coating will scratch and wear away after a while. Nobody has ever asked about one of the clips on my pocket except once when I was carrying one of the ones with a black clip. This clip color business is all a matter of personal taste though.

Put me down as a "shiny clip" guy.

I think that it adds a LOT of class to the knives. I even pulled the nice blue enamel clip off my BF Native and put the shiny clip from my zytel NAtive on it. Ahhhh....

Put me down for shiny clips. I tend to wear khaki pants, and the shiny clips "hide" better against the browns and tans. I'm wearing my Black T Stryker today (hey - a guy needs some variety, OK?) and the black clip stands out like a sore thumb.

Just gonna drop my pennies in the bucket...

I like the silver clips too, I like people to ask what's in my pocket..so I can show em! Hardly a day goes by that someone doesnt ask me what's in my pocket, and I love that!

Danelle O'Shea of SPYDERCO Customer Service e-mailed and said she would send me a clip.

Thank you Danelle & SPYDERCO!

As soon as I receive and install the new clip I will put my AFCK back on the shelf and stick with the Velie for daily carry. I love that Knife!.

I carry a Viele, too. (#880) It never occurred to me to try a black clip on it. I carry them in stock and I'm going to put one on to see how it looks. I do like the silver clip though, and, like many of the rest of you, I don't mind people asking me about it. (Especially since I sell them)

I like my blue Native clip! People always ask what it is. I proudly show them my BF Native!
