Lack of response = No?

I've emailed both of the lovely ladies at Busse asking about a SAR 8. I have not heard back from either in over a week. Just curious if that means one is not available?

Thanks

Hard to say. Supposedly it's just them being busy, but in my experience (and my experiences only, perhaps this is all just a coincidence), whenever they don't respond about the availability of a blank, it's a no. I get them to answer after a little bit of pushing. When there were blanks available, I didn't need to follow up and always got answers. Not ever immediately, but eventually.

Good enough. Still, hitting the reply button and typing "no" isn't that time-consuming.

I appreciate the info. :)

Phone calls are much faster and more direct. ;)

yes call if you really want to communicate with the lovely ladies........ or just email Garth. I've never emailed the ladies for blanks, always Garth.

you have to be careful saying no when you aren't sure. just because they aren't where they are supposed to be doesn't mean they don't have any. they might be checking around a little better before they say no.

Sometimes it can take a while for them to get back to you. Why? Because they are busy keeping us Hogs happy, and they do a darn good job at that if you ask me.

You might want to call or email Garth directly. Garth is in charge of the custom shop and Pokey & Lexi would have to get in touch with Garth to coordinate a custom blade.

Patience is a virtue my friend. Especially if you want to be in the Busse game.

Patience? You want to talk patience?? Go get yourself an NFA toy!!! ;)

I've been waiting 4 months and my end of the process hasn't even started yet. It'll be at least another 6 until I get my piece.

I do appreciate the heads up about Garth though....Thanks! :)

Maybe the old SAR 8 blanks are now ear marked for the SARGE series and that is what is taking a bit of time to unravel as to whether they can do an old model ?

Why not try looking on the exchange ? Are they going for more than they originally cost ? I would doubt that in this economic climate ...

I heard some people waited years for their Custom shop pieces. This was probably years ago before Busse tightened up their work, I think. I didn't have to wait that long for mine to go from order to the grinder, a couple months only. However, there seems to be a strict QA guideline, so even though supposedly my knife was "done" two Fridays ago, I still haven't received word of it. It takes a heck of a lot longer time if you're getting wood scales, too, because they do all the drying, stabilizing, etc. in house, maybe even only upon receipt of the order.

I'm not 100% sure but I doubt that they use the same blanks. Just a conclusion based on what I know: The shop will not drill holes on a knife that has already been heat treated since they do not want to change the steel's hardness, even including things like the Light Brigade I-beam treatment (which is done via CNC anyway), and the blanks for each model are already heat treated; so I think they won't skeletonize a SAR 8 blank.
It could also be that my terminology is off. I don't know if there's a difference between blanks, billets, etc., but I believe for Busse to consider something a blank for one of their models, it's already heat treated.

Not sure about that as Jerry's post on the introduction of the SARGE series say's a SAR blank was thrown to Garth to lighten it up ... now that could have been done just for a working proto-type ... but as they can easily re-do the heat treatment after a cyro soak to relieve the stress in the blade after machining it ... that option is open to them.

However, I am inclined to agree that once the CNC machines are programmed they would use fresh billets for new production runs.

My guess is simply that they are a bit busy in terms of the SAR 8 enquiry. Also, AFAIK, Busse normally have'nt done old "stock" models via the custom shop ... usually the custom shop has done old models with variations on them ... even if it is only a variation on the colour paint applied or handle material. An example being a SHBM from the custom shop being produced at Knob Creek in Artic White. In other words the custom shop used to be known for "custom" work rather than cranking out old models ... ??

Dude, you can't take Jerry's words literally :p and you think Garth would've survived that? I can't imagine... poor guy!

I wonder how orders for CG versions of long-discontinued models are handled myself. Some guy here just got a CG Gladius (MaxPen I think?) and another a CG Killa Zilla II a few weeks ago. I wonder if the regular production team makes them.

Public the response maybe No, Privately the response maybe Yes!? In either way, I'm the first one who want to know where you get your first Busse:D

Dittto on the wait time. I am seconding guessing sending mine in for a rehandle as I actually need it and use it quite a bit. I am thinking I should have sent it to a maker here on the forum for a faster turn around time. Now I am at a point where another from a customer maker may takes it's place.

Actually I agree with the phone call thing but if you send an email to their published contact info they should respond. I personally have sent TWO to two different emails because they screwed up my order. I did call them and was going to send in the wrong knife for an exchange. I then emailed them to see if I could just buy the correct one, crickets. They also charged the whole thing at once, not in the advertised three payments, and I have gotten ZERO response from Busse. I know Amy leaving probably caused some hiccups but I still paid dearly for what I purchased, expect good cs, and Busse has always had great CS.

I already know that someone will come on here and blast me for going public with this vice calling Busse but too bad. They haven't answered my emails and they can't take back the one lump sum payment. I paid it already. Things fall through the cracks but give me a break. If you get an email, respond. Especially if YOU made the mistake to begin with.

Pick up the pace Busse, please.
