Many thanks to the various Knife Makers and suppliers that have helped out on this project.
This is the first Ladder pattern I have made. I will be working on refining the pattern next knife.
Extra Thanks to Nick Wheeler for Making a Video on finishing Koa wood.

Dang Dave!
Beautiful Knife!
I am thinking you are going to make the teacher proud with how well you finished the Koa.
I really like the pattern in the steel as well.
All in all, she's a beauty!

man, that koa is shnazzy!

That's a nice work , the next ladder pattern will be better and so on, that's the way.

That is beautiful. Is there a link to that video on finishing koa or is that a DVD?

Fantastic piece overall, but the koa......I don´t think I´ve ever seen it better, nor finished as nice.

Congrats.

Your proportions, handle finish, guard and overall execution are very impressive. While perhaps not a perfect ladder, I love your damascus pattern. I really complements your handle.
I like your handle shape and ergonomics, however personally, I would prefer a more contoured butt to more match your other curvatures.

Hey David - greetings from Southbury :D

beautiful knife - That damascus looks very "organic" and I like that alot.....the Koa is fabulous - and I say that as a Koa aficionado:p

great job!

Hi Parbajtor,
K&G Stabilized the block of wood. I purchased the block from the Burl Source. It was The best grade Mark had to offer.
I do not know of the process to make the colors come out. Mark Might Chime in on this.
How I finished the handle is detailed in this video By Nick Wheeler. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nc4y1bFj3co

Hi Kevin J,
Your point on the handle is Good. You will see some improvements in that area on a future knife. Plus a more refined Damascus.

Thank's
Dave

Did you use Aqua regia or aqua fortis on the Koa?
That was the natural color with the Koa. Koa colors can range from amber to chocolate brown with a gazillion variations in between.
It was stabilized clear by K&G. The block had good figure and Dave finished it really well.
