These are some of the first knives that I have made. The one in the middle is the VERY first. It is scratched a bit because I have been carrying and using it to see how I did.

Daniel Prentice from Clarksville has generously taken me under his wing and is showing me the ropes. I have done "research" for years before ever touching metal to grinder.

Most are 1095 bar stock that I annealed. The two smallest (cord wrapped) were forged from railroad spikes. I saw the japanese wrap on the handle of a wakizashi I bought years ago to turn the blade into a "tactical" piece. I do not know what is called, but I like it. It covers the whole skin in the choil area, unlike the "traditional" wrap. I love doing this.

Am I on a path, or do I need to take up birdwatching??? David Farmer

The knives look very nice!! You can avoid the purchase of bird binoculars. As far as picture quality, that could use some touching up. I am not one to talk, my pics always stink. I think you have found a new hobby, one that will take over your life...Ask anyone here. Plan on going to sleep dreaming of knive designs or new tools. Every time you go into a hardware store you will be eyeing up things that may make a nice tool. You wont be able to look at a piece of steel without wondering what kind of a knife it would make. Welcome to the club.

I have another larger one I have heat treated this weekend. I will have it finished this week. I an going to wrap the handle and have red G10 as the underlay. I have an interesting design for a menuki that yall will have to figure out. I will post pics as it developes.

Had a chance to go to Daniel Prentice's house on Sunday and forged my first knife from cable damascus. Daniel had started it for the rough up and I finished it. After a couple of "Aww Dude!"s (I almost screwed the pooch a couple of times) it should turn out. I am looking to finish it with Kudu horn and maybe copper guard and buttcap. I will let you know how it goes. He said I have to post pics. Thanks Daniel.....David

Nice job David. It looks like your on your way to the ultimate addiction. :D The handle wrap looks great.

Wellcome to the club, David! I must warn you, thought, that there is no known cure for steel dust addiction... but it seems to be too late, I thnk...
