This was a concept knife, wanted to try leaving a fileworked spacer proud of the rest of the handle. The double grind was a stretch for me as well as my first tinkering with ivory. Be interested to hear what you guys think, thanks for looking.

Haley,

It is a very clean, nicely ground knife....you are turning into a heck of an accomplished maker....that's really nice to see.

IMO, the longer handle and shorter blade make it look unbalanced....I always try to get makers to go AT least as long with the blade as with the handle. Would have liked to see a bit of tapering and possibly a groove in the handle to help the fingers keep from slipping on that slick ivory.

Best Regards,

so, so sweet!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Looks real nice, Haley. I'm with STeven on the ability. Excellent. :D

Sorry, STeven, that's a rule that works for you and for the eye, but it doesn't always work in the hand. My favorite carry knife is a Tim Wright 'paring' knife with a handle twice as long as the blade. I actually use my Custom Knife.... (backing away from the thrown objects...)

As always, it has to do with the intent, but that it's from Haley and might be designed for a ladies hand, I'd opt for a shorter blade/longer handle for most control.

Nice work Haley. You've created a nice little elegant knife here.
I think anytime you set out to create an easily concealable or compact knife with around a 3" blade a slightly unbalanced look kind of goes with the territory as opposed to being a defect. You are kind of limited as how short can you make a handle yet still have a perfered degree of comfort and/or functionality.

I love your blade profile/grinds and feel the fileworked spacer adds a nice decorative touch. Is the clip sharpened?

I agree 100% with Steven in that a little shaping/tapering of the ivory would have really taken this piece OVER the top even though It's a very nice piece now.

Looks very CLEAN to me also Haley. It does have an elegant look to it.

Living where you do, having easy access to ivory, you should venture into some carving/shaping etc. Ivory can be superb, as a material to work with.

Haley:

Beautiful grind lines, and I love the raised file work. Very nice.

Thanks so much for the encouragement and ideas guys...living out like we do we don't have many people to show our work to and get feedback. It's always appreciated.

I know what you mean STeven...the handle is just long enough for the 'spider butt' swell of the handle to fit in the hollow of your palm...but just think, when TSA goes back to the 4" blade rule you could take it on the plane!

Kevin, no the clip is not sharpened and yes...I agonized over this handle because I had intended to make it far more slenderized and curvier but the ivory just didn't have it...it would have been solid tapioca showing had I gone any further, awwell. The rope filework sticks above the handle just over a 16th of an inch and that gives it quite a bit of grip actually...you can see it better here. Quick pic, forgive the fuzzles:o

wellll...I'm thinking a concealed carry style, side ride you could wear front or back... the one in my head has a crossover front that would almost look like a fleur de lis with the ivory butt sticking out but I'm not so sure I can pull it off. I want it to be classy and low profile, maybe baby stingray or shark...speaking of which, anyone have a good source for sharkskin?

I think it is very clean and sweet! I love the raised file worked spacer! I can't decide if I would have prefered a domed pin in the handle!

Regardless it is most beautiful!

Paul Long has an EXCELLENT source for sharkskin, as does Adam from Adam Unlimited.

Haley, this is a sweet little knife. I especially like your file worked spacer. Thanks for the peek.

Haley I think it looks great the handle and overall look is somwhat reminicient of michael price( think goldrush california but I bet you know who that is ). I really like the entire piece but think a more classical grind would have suited the piece more. Hope to see both of your work in person some time.
