Do you think it would be possible to tap the FRN of one of the new spderco Ladybug3's and put a little low ride clip on it??? I know the clip would cost more than the knife but I think it might be worth it. What do you think?
I've actually found over the last 10 or more years that FRN can hold threads better than Micarta or G10 over time so yes. The trick to making them last is to never overtweak the screws by overtightening, to not make a habit of taking the clip on and off a lot and to never fill the holes or the threads with loctite or super glue. If you do that with the glue you'll strip out the threads the first time you do back out a screw leaving the hole with none.
If you follow those steps the threads last. I've got old Cold Steel folders of my own as well as many floating around out in the world with nothing but an FRN set of holes holding the clips on and they have never come back to me so I guess they worked.
Oh yeah. If you need to contact me privately reach me at Lgtfutatcableone.net by removing 'at' and inserting @ in its place.
Also, I ask all customers to please read post number one in my pocket clip thread sticky at the top of the page before mailing to me. That helps a lot. In fact while your are looking at sticky posts you might browse the bold print on post number two in my "What I do" thread also.
I did just that with a Jester and it worked fine for me. Two (2) 1/16" holes in the FRN and whatever the next sized drill bit in the clip and I think 2/56 screws aprox. 1/4" long. Turned out to be kinda useless (a clip on such a small knife) but I "just had to try!"
I think that knife went to Turner III. Turner, do you remember? (that box of knives we traded for, you traded the Salsa)
