I just bought a LaGriffe and I have a question about the tip. Should it be needle sharp or slightly blunted? Mine seems to be rounded near the tip and sort of looks like it is "scalloped" from the reverse side. Here's a pic:

Deadly Pointy!

Remster135:

I'm not too sure what you mean by "scalloped", but I thought I'd pass on that my L/G is dangerously pointed. A few passes over the Spyderco Sharpmaker has made it 'hair-popping' sharp also.

My laGriffe looks exactly like that. I don't know if it's intended to or not though. Still slashes like a S.O.B. so I'm not to worried about it.

It really just depends on your personal preferences. I like the needle tip for my LG, I have a larger hawksbill blade that I maintain with a slightly rounded tip for utility. You can take the tip back down to a needle point if you want by pulling the spine of the blade at the tip along a flat stone, and rocking it up slightly as you near the tip. This will obviously take off some of the coating, but it works very well.

Whaddaya mean, is it supposed to be needle sharp? Yours is needle sharp! Man, we get finicky around here, don't we? I bet you could rip through a ... ummm, maybe not. Bring it over and introduce it to mine. I got an idea how to sharpen that tip with my Tri-Seps.

Well, I reprofiled the tip and now this thing is sharp & pointy!!! Ialso added some red paracord to it.
