Hello everyone,

Has anyone bought a laguiole knife from the site , www.laguiole-elite.com ? How is the fix and finish of the knives. I am looking at the 9 cm black horn laguiole. Does the blade hit the back spring when closed?
From the pictures on the site they look good and the prices seem OK but I would like to here from someone that has bought a knife from them.

Thank you

Jim

Well I can't speak for them, but these guys do great work!! And they are very friendly!!!

Honor'e and Christophe Durand (owners of Laguiole De L Artisan) are both really good guys and they do great work!!! Ive bought from them many times. They hand make their knives.

Buy a "prestige" line laguiole from them and you will have a nice forged bee, solid horn tip handles and the shepherds cross. You can also have one custom made, or made with almost any configuration. They give you a choice of either Swedish Sandvik stainless steel blade (12C27), or carbon steel (XC75). They will hand file the backsprings with whatever you like. Once they finish your knife it usually takes only a few days to receive it via fedex.

It usually takes me a week on the average to receive a prestige line knife after I order it (depends on their work load of course).

Also their customer service is excellant!

*** Also you have to "beware" as there are many sites in France that sell Laguiole folders that are made in china, or partially made in china, Japan, pakistan, etc.

Thankyou for the link. Those are some great looking knives. I think I will save for one of them.

The knives are worth it! I have ordered at least 8, or so from them. They are really good guys to deal with, very friendly and theirs are completely made in Laguiole!!!

Thanks for that link. I'm having a little difficulty with the exchange rate though - it appears to be in Euros - any idea how I can figure out what these things cost with all the "trimmings?"

Also, how have you paid for them - paypal, credit card, etc.?

Ive paid by credit card.

You can use this link (at bottom) to convert the euro rate. Bear in mind that the rate may not be exactly as what you are charged. They chrage you when your knives actually ship, so the rate can vary some. What I do is I will click on the different options on their site and before I go ahead and send the order through I get the total and go back to the currency converter and put it in to see what it will probably cost me. Its usually pretty accurate within a dollar, or two, or some change.

Thanks again, but I just wanted to confirm I'm working the conversion right. I one of those Laguioles costs "78,40", does this mean it is about $96 american? The comma is confusing and if the figure "78,40" is entered with the comma as listed, it comes out to about $8,000 american and that is a little out of my range.

Also, what do you think of their Sandvik stainless v. carbon? Have you tried both, favor one or the other?

It should contain a decimal (not a comma). Hince 78.40 Euros =96.1654 USD =96.17 (rounded) USD.

I have both the (12C27) sandvik and the (XC75) carbon steel. The carbon steel wil hold a little better edge, but this particualr carbon steel is more succeptable to rust (?). Its like any carbon steel blade you will have to keep it oiled and clean if you want to keep it tarnish free. After having both knives I would go with the sandvik as there is no real advantage to the XC75 carbon steel. I have used one in the sandvik since last January and have been very happy with it. The heat treat seems good (much better than older sandvik steels from other knife manufacturers). Heat treat has much to do with the quality of any knife blade. I would not hesistate to get another one.

A lot of European countries use a comma in their currency like the US uses a decimal point.

Yes, but when you use this converter you have to use the decimal. Otherwise it will not work properly.
