I am really starting to like Laguiole knives, and ordered second one few days ago.I have noticed that there are different types of handles, some are slim and some very wide.As I order knives online, its hard to see it on pictures.Any info is welcome! The one I have is Arto, and the one on order is Laguiole en Aubrac. Is the handle width going up by blade length,or something else or there is no rules. Some handles are very wide and some very slim...

The handle width depends of the maker. The tendancy seems to widening them, but olders are slimmer. Usually the maker points out when the slabs are wider. Arto (formerly Arthaud) and Laguiole en Aubrac are top makers with quite slim handles, both are top quality and very desirable. Arto (Seahorse brand) near Thiers proposes also the "old" straight Lag pattern, beside more a modern approach, while LeA is in Laguiole and has a much wider choice of slabs.
Don't forget top post pictureswhen you received them.

I have Robert David and Aubrac laquoiles. The R. David is slimmer. I like both, they feel different but both are very comfortable.

What I've always admired in the Lag is its in hand feel and ergonomics. If you look at it at first glance, you might think the narrow handle shape would make for poor handling. Not so, in fact they have relatively thick handle slabs thus ensuring a comfortable grip. Sometimes I think that GEC's smaller models are let down by their thin slabs giving a skimpy feel. Learn from the Lag :D

Thanks, Will

Actually the Arto I have has very wide handle, almost too wide.I like slimmer handles for easier pocket carry! The one I have on order is laguiole en Aubrac with bone handles. Also soon Im getting Actiforge Laguiole, rosewood handles.
