Hi guys,

I was wondering which Laguiole's come with bladestops to prevent the blade from going dull from hitting the back spring every time it closes. I have read that Fontenille Pataud blades have such a stop. Do you know of any others with this feature?

While I can't say I've heard of laguioles that have a blade stop built in, there is this rubber thing you can buy that sits inside the handle to prevent it from getting dulled up.

I wish they all did. The cork thing don't work for long.

I had on old Fontenille that didn't have a stop.

I have a Fontenille, that's about 5 years old, it has a bladestop.

Yes I agree, Fontenille Pataud all have half stops as far as I know, but you're going to have to pay top dollar for one. IMO it's worth it as they're the best traditional Laguiole currently being made.

As I understand it, the Prestige range from la Coutellerie de Laguiole (Laguiole l'Artisan) also have them, but I don't know firsthand.

I've found that rubber (as from an old bicycle innertube) works better than cork or wood.
You have to cut a thin strip then carefully superglue it.

Since rubber 'gives' elastically, it seems to hold up better than less elastic materials like wood or cork.

It's good to know that there are a couple manufacturers making laguioles with stops. Is Fontenille the only one that makes a one-hand opening laguiole?
