hi,
im looking to get a laguiole folding knife, but am a bit confused about the different varieties. from what i understand, the name actually refers to the city where they are historically made, and that there are many different manufacturers of this style of knife. my questions are 1) are there any specific makers i should avoid? 2) are there any that you would recommend?.
right now i am looking for one ranging from $10 - $50, but i would also like to see any higher priced suggestions (just so i have some general knowledge about these knives). thanks!
peace.

Really nice truly french ones are made by
- Fontenille-Pataud
- Laguiole en Aubrac
- Forge de Laguiole

A bit lower and cheaper on the perceived quality scale are G. David (or is it R. David? I forgot)

The ones with steel bolsters at both ends are the sturdiest.

Don't buy a cheap pakistani clone as your first laguiole! You may find a smaller G. David for $50 but the top brands above cost more. You'll understand when handling.
The top ones most often come with 12C27 steel.

R. David (Robert David)

World Knives has a pretty good assortment to look at.
