Acquiring a knife from an established maker, with superb quality and style, is always a pleasure...opening the box and pulling out a bali that is just as good, or better, than you thought it was going to be is just great...really makes my day!
And after a while you kinda know what you're going to get from different makers; though titillating, somewhat expected...you go to a fine restaurant and though possibly stunning, you're just not surprised to receive a fine meal.
-------------------------------------------------------
This, however, is something different. A new maker, a new design. The only clue I had of what was coming was a splendid small bali from Scott (also channel, also impeccable), but it only hinted at what the bigger brother was all about.
Gobsmacked!
Right off the bat I'm gonna say I love this bali, really a great knife! The specs are 3.75 inch blade (4.25" tip to handle), 9.5 inch OAL, 4.9 ounces weight. Channel construction, detent latch *and* not a tang pin in sight. Love the two-tone finished handle, incredibly well done pivot bolts with countersunk 'compartments' and a wonderfully original 3D milled pocket clip. Chamfered and/or radiused edges...and God bless 'em, not a single hole in the handles. AND if you're observant enough you'll notice the maker's mark on the *inside* of the handle channel. Wow...just Wow!
The grind on the blade, simply put, is superb. It has a perfectly radiused top edge, the 'trademark' Lahst Knives fuller, unique top swedge and a great multi-ground 'rounded tanto' tip (actually very useful) with a screamin' sharp edge.
This bali flips like a dream. I'm an ol' school flipper so this isn't a contemporary flipper analysis, but everything that I have, it handles as well as any I've flipped. The blade is a very useful cutter also; the ever-so-slight concave grind does just as well with a heavy cardboard box as it does peeling and sectioning an apple.
Just like to say that I recently traded away two prized BBs and I kinda missed them...but not any more! There are very few knives these days that I'd be willing to wait in line for, but another Lahst bali would be one of them.
Thanks Scott, helluva knife!
