I lost my job today. No advance notice or anything; I just showed up and found out today is my last day. I have a wife and a kid to support, and the only option given to me, because of the economy, was unemployment. I can't stand not to be working. I'm still here, at work, and I'm already tired of not working.

I'd resort to alcohol, but I'm not a drinker. I'd resort to drugs, but I'm not a user. I'd resort to buying a Bradley to cheer me up, but I can't be spending that type of money any time soon. So, I'm counting the good things and awaiting my A.G. Russell shipment that I ordered last night.

Thanks for listening. Feel free to comment.

I feel your pain Bro. I am on a month long "furlough". Which means no pay for one month. I guess it's better than being permanently liad off. I have a family of four to support. I'm trying to sell some excess stuff. Hang in there man. Alan

Believe me when I say, I do understand. I not only lost my job, but my business of 23 years. Had to lay off 18 employees, some that had been with me for 19 years. I am in dump as well, but I am looking on the bright side. Had I not lost everything. I would still be working and not with the love of my life for 45 years. I have always worked, now I have to figure how to make it on SS. My wifes' drug bill runs sometimes 1,400 a month, but we do have some insurance that gets about 80% of that. Count your blessings, things are tough right now for you, but if you are willing to work, you ought to be able to get a job doing something. It may not be in your chosen field, but it may put food on the table.

Sign up NOW for unemployment, don't wait a day. Good Luck with the job hunt.
Jim

I have been training guys from India to take my job over the last year. All I can say is keep that attitude you have and stay positive.

I know my time is coming soon, I am in charge of software on all platforms you can name for this company's supply chain world wide. Before I got there they did it with spreadsheets and email. Now they have a forecasting system, automated planning and manufacturing systems and a huge website where they can track inventory to well over 100,000 sku's at any location real time all interfaced together and to our factories and distribution centers all over the world. We have gone from customer service levels in the 80% range to over 99% due to this system.

Got a phone call today and my offer on a small business was accepted. Getting out of the corporate work and now am getting ready to make my own mistakes. :D.

You never know where a good thing might be. Never give up and take care of your family. When it all boils down, that is what is important.

Good luck. I was laid off in March after getting a promotion and a "big" raise. I talked to a former co-worker today and he is worried.

Hang in there.

Gus, good luck with the change. Give me a call if I can help.

I know how you feel I lost my job in October of last year. I was a correctional officer. I have been looking for work ever since and still have found nothing. I had an interview today at Family Dollar I just hope they call me back and tell me I'm hired. Not my field of work but at least I would have some type of work.

I was laid off in Jan. This economy SUCKS but hang in there ,get signed up for unemployment TODAY/TOMORROW as it takes some time to start getting checks.Fluidnow is there website, forget about getting them on the phone.

Keep a smile on ya ! It just might end up being a GOOD thing as was the case for me the last time i became unemployed.

I got laid off right before X-Mas in 2008. Currently working at the local Home Depot after almost 9 years in the IT field. No wife or kids to worry about. I sold my condo and took a hit financially, but better then a foreclosure. Currently living with my sister. Her hours got cut at her work and I help out with rent/utilities. Hang in there. You aren't alone.

I'm sorry this happened to you, and the others who posted similar woes.

Prayers sent for all of you to find good jobs soon.

I got laid off last month too after finishing my 4 year apprenticeship and with the crisis and all nobodys hiring and especially not a greenhorn like me. My wife got fired almost 5 months ago and still hasnt found another job. If nothing turns up anytime soon i might have to relocate to another part of the country to get a job.

Times are tough but hang in there...

Good luck to you all!

Sorry to hear of this J. As stated, hang in there and do what you think is right.

To the rest of you that have encountered this problem, I wish you the best. Keep a positive attitude, as tough as it may be.

Gus, good luck in the Goat Dip industry!

J, that does suck, but stay positive. I've always been a workaholic, and I was laid off at the end of February. It was rough, but I was able to get a lot of work done on my own business (knifemaking) and land a local job that will be much nicer! Remember, a little bit of good attitude and inspiration will go a long way. It's a good time to put in for all those jobs that you've wanted but didn't think you'd get, polish off that honey-do list at the house, hang with the kid, and go get a job that will make you wonder why you ever stuck around at the last one so long:thumbup:

man that sucks, I work at an auto factory and were not doing so well, the economy sucks and I'm just waiting to pull into the parking lot one day and the gates be closed, prayers sent your way brother.....

I'm sorry you got laid off it really is tough out there right now. I agree with what some other posts have said; keep a positive attitude and be open to new possibilities that you never considered before. Good luck to you in your new job search.

I also feel your pain bro. I have been unemployed for three months now. Thankfully my wife makes a whole lot more money than me anyway. But I have only had one interview out of about thirty applications. I tell ya, a job at Sams Club aint looking too bad right now, and I'm not kidding:eek:. Things are tough right now, but they will get better. In times like this I just remind myself how lucky I am that I have my health and be thankful for everything I do have. I did treat myself to a new Lum Chinese, but I had to sell something to justify buying it, so that helped a bit:o,
Best of luck to all of you that are in the same boat.

J,
I am sure things appear desperate. I suggest you apply for unemployment asap, as did other posters. Next, get your resume up on Career Builder, Monster, trade sites, organizations everything. Forget about drugs and alcohol, keep yourself busy with things that need to get done. If you feel desperate, or uneasy, take things day by day, or hour by hour, or minute by minute if need be. Vigorous exercise will always take away any anxiety or troubled feelings. If you have a relationship with God, now is the time to assess that, and pray for His will to be done. You will be surprised what a little faith can do. Count your blessings, and give thanks for them. You could end up in a much better place occupationally when the next opportunity comes. Take any and all interviews, it is great practice and it will build up your confidence so that when the real thing comes, you look so confident they have to hire you. We are all rooting for you. Look, even Ren is back in the saddle!

I'm trying to keep it as positive as I can. I've never been laid off or any other form of "involuntary termination" so I'm feeling a bit bad. It was explained that this decision was based on seniority only, but it still sucks.

I'm not a drinker, smoker, or drug user, so that's great. I'm already heavily working out (Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu, along with some knife combatives) so I'll have more time for that now. I'm not a religious person, without going into detail.
The job situation here is bad; WalMart isn't even hiring. I'll be filing for unemployment for the first time in my life, and for the first time, I feel like a failure. I don't like it. Anyway, thanks for listening.

i know , been there , done that...
don't let the worries get to you.
spill your guts and keep talking, don't give into your head.
do a few things you've put off because of work.
remember tomorrow will come.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your job, get that Unemployment started right away.

I left Ohio 30 years ago due to the unemployment rate. I joined the USAF and never looked back. I do miss the place though, I didn't think I would until I was gone...

Good Luck in the job search.
