Just come to receive my very first LAKE wich is a 15' clip point bowie.

This knife was made in 1965 by the master and given to a friend, there is an article in BLADE april 1996 about it.

A man crossed america to buy it and now the knife has just crossed atlantic to come to me.

This unique knife is a dream and I love dreams.

Wish you the same pleasure ;)

Congrats on scoring such a gorgeous LAKE, and thanks for sharing the pics.
However, just as a suggestion, your post would be more appropriately placed in the "Gallery" or the "Custom Knives Forum" though. Most members look here in the "GBU" for the good or bad scoop regarding their dealings with dealers, makers, or other members. So by posting here, you might be depriving some LAKE fans of an opportunity to see a very infrequent pic of a fine and rare piece.

Best,
Frank

I spoke to Ron this afternoon, and he says this is the first knife he made. He made it in November 1965, as a Chrstmas present for a friend. Carbon steel blade, brass mounts. Originally unmarked. Later Ron cleaned it up for the original owner, and then Gold plated the brass so it would not tarnish. That was when he engraved his name on the spine -- using a pantograph engraver with a diamond tool, since the blade is hard.

It is very 1960s.

BRL...

In fact the knife was ship by fedex and everything went right, the only thing is importation tax because first the customs wanted to charge me 21% !! After negociation they accepted 6%.

So pay attention when buy abroad.

The knife is just absolutly beautiful and I thank Billy S. for his honesty.

Very Cool!!!!!!

Was at a show nearly twenty years ago and Steve Hoel had a fancy engraved bowie on his table.........$7500. Of course I could not afford it but I looked at it a number of times......It was engraved by Steve Lindsay and a Japanese collector bought it, paid in mostly $500 bills. I saw Steve counting his money over and over that day, and I asked someone about that: they said he had been carrying that knife to shows for a couple of years and he had to pay for the engraving up front. Needless to say he was relieved. I sure wish I had gotten one of his folders way back when they were under $500!!! :) :)

Tom, What a story. Even those $500 bills would be worth BIG bucks today.

Just Beautiful!

What would Ron Lake's first, 11/1965, Bowie be worth in todays market?

That knife and a quarter might buy you a cup of coffee!
I'M KIDDING!!!"

Edited to add:
In my quest to be funny, I forgot to say,

that is an awesome knife!

not exactly my first knife, but my first LAKE.

Already got Tommy LEE, Embretsen, WD PEASE, Larry FUEGEN, Charles BENNICA , Tim HANCOCK and some others, but this one is defenetly an exceptional knife.

My first idea was to deal it but now he has such a major importance in modern cutlery I don't know how I could sell this bowie....

Absolutely Agreed! But beyond the imortance of the man himself, then, how much more imortant is his FIRST finished project, that is, the artifact itself?!!..

Very Impotant... I believe most eveyone else would all be in concurrence.

Just as an aside, would'nt it be cool to have a web page dedicated to displaying all these others that you posess, and 'The Lake' in all they're glorious splender?!..

Great Thread.. Good Historical Input.. Thanx to All.. :)
