Similar to another post of mine -- what do you take with you to the lake?

We've been taking the "personal watercraft" to the lake quite a bit -- either just day-trips, sometimes hauling the camper down as well.

Looking for something 3"-3.5" fixed-blade. Not really interested in vertical-sheath carry, but I'm open to about anything else. Probably prefer a kydex / concealex sheath.

Not that I have any where near the profound fountain of knife knowledge that others here would have, but theres a few that I would personally consider.

Have you decided against the Benchmade R&R? mine's been one heck of a useful knife. I've taken it to the Lakes, Rivers, etc. never given it any TLC, and it's really doing an awesome job for me. I don't mind the lack of a "pointy" profile just cause I SOMETIMES carry it in the prehospital care enviroment, and I also don't like the potential to stick myself with it while in a large, wavy body of water. If you prefer a "pointier" style, I once had a Gerber River Master that certainly gave my my moneys worth for $40 or so. their River Guide IV don't look bad either, but I have no hands on experience with that one. None of the forementioned knives are exactly showcase material, but they do the job, and it won't break yer heart when yer knife decides to take a swim.

If you do have the more expensive tastes have you considered the Camillus Talon? I've got a friend with one that seems pretty darn pleased with it. way more money that I'd spend on a "lake knife" but, maybe it's the right one for you.

Best of luck in your hunt!

Actually I like what I've seen of the BM100 R&R a LOT. I've had it on my "must buy" list for a year -- since I read about it from the '00 SHOT show.

I don't think the sheath can be clipped inside my right-front pocket like a SOG Outline. Maybe someone could built me a custom sheath?
