My cousin did some work a while back for an old man whose father in law had been a coon hunter, and he gave my cousin this axe that his father in law had carried coon hunting for many years.

It is a smallish axe, not as large as a full sized poleaxe, but certainly not a hatchet.

It is marked "Lakeside."

It's sure enough a neat little axe, and appears to have been well taken care of.

What do I have?

Lakeside boy's axe maybe. I like them and find them to be of quality steel.

They were a Montgomery Ward house brand (50's?) I think.

I like them and have several. Looks clean to me.

Flip it over and see if it is marked with a number or a "W" or both - those tend to seem more resistant to filing.

Very neat - if you need to get rid of it...

;)

had a full size Lakeside axe. it was worn down quit a bit. abused eye too.i think i re-profiled it.

The beauty of knocking 'not quite' dead raccoons over the head with a domestic hatchet is the poll will never mushroom nor will the blade suffer very much from efficiently removing limbs and heads.
