I recently came across some pictures of Lakota knifes, and they make me wonder...

The "Lakota Legend" bears a lot of resemblance to an Al Mar. It doesn't quite match any particular Al Mar model, but the pivot pin and G10 bevels are Al Mar style.

The "Lakota Talon" looks to be a dead ringer for an Mcusta:

Some of the other knives they make look familiar but I can't place them.

Searching around BladeForums, Lakota has a good reputation, and I'm not trying to knock it. Just wondering if these knives are made by Lakota, or if Lakota is re-branding other companies' knives, or what. Also, the Lakotas seem kind of hard to find. The front page of their site says it's down, but there are informative pages hiding behind there. I wonder if they're still in business.

Anyway, if I can find a Legend, I'm buying one. ;)

I guess this end is the MCusta one you're referring to (you're links aren't working for me in FF). It's the exact same thing as the Mcusta basic sitting next to me. I know MCusta makes knives for other companies (Browning), so it doesn't really surprise me. It's a nice knife, but it costs more than the MCustas, so I'm not really sure what the draw is.

Perhaps the Legend model slightly resembles the Al Mar Shrike. Know that LOTS of knives are made in Seki City for big name companies. Nothing wrong with that. And not really a secret in the industry.

If I am not mistaken, my Lakota Lil Hawk that I've had for about twenty years was made by the same maker that used to make Al Mar's knives for him. It wouldn't be much of a surprise to me if they make the same design for several companies.

Like most knife "manufacturers" Lakota (and Al Mar for that matter) doesn't make anything. They are importers. It should be no surprise that many of them will use some of the same Japanese manufacturers as sources.
