Lal Bahadur Bishwakarma 'Bura'

Hi Elias,

'Bura' is a master Kami, his skills recognised the Nepali Royal Family, and as far as I know is commissioned to make the most prestigious and important items offered by Himalayan Imports.

I'm sure others will add to his biography.

Regards,

bruce

More specifically, Bura is THE Royal Kami (and presumably will be the last to hold that title, with the monarchy's dissolution), and more relevant to this shop, he is the HI shop foreman, overseeing everyone else. He is a notoriously tough taskmaster, to boot.

Bura Kami makes all HI Kothimoda Khukuri, he is our best Kamis in the shop.

Yep. The old fella is really good.

I have a Tarwar, a Chitlangi, and a Sirupati made by him.

They're magnificent.

I have a Uddha, UBM Salyan and am waiting the arrival of a Sirupati made by him. ;) :D

If it's anything like my 20.25" Bura Sirupati, you're in for a real treat. It's incredibly quick & agile and handles like a rapier. Of all my Khukuris, it's the one I consider my best for use as a weapon. It has a truly predatory feel to it and it took a frighteningly sharp edge. Seriously I would consider the edge quality on par with my 1890s Sheffield-made straight razor and it holds that edge very well.

I love my other Bura pieces; the Tarwar and 26" Chitlangi are impressive examples of craftsmanship, but the Sirupati he made is almost magical. That's the one in my small Bura collection which impressed me the most as a testimony to just how much incredible skill that old guy has.
