Laminated steel necker?

How much more difficult is this to sharpen? Does it hold an edge well? Will it make me look cool?

The Snap-On guy had a laminated Kershaw folder the other day and one of my coworkers said "go show Nadz, he's the knife guy" and it reminded me that Becker made something similar. It looks pretty cool, and I dig knives this size (easier to use at work, and won't get weird looks from customers) for EDC. I'm kinda on the fence between the regular one and this cool-looking one.

Any serious difference in edge-retention and ease-of-sharpening? Thanks, joo guys!

I have one with micarta scales. I haven't used it heavily. I put it to the sharpmaker the other day to tighten up the edge even more. It's sharp as hell. The grinds are a little uneven, as I think they are done by hand. I've seen two, and the other was the same. The steel is supposed to be really something special, plus it is a limited run. Once they are gone, they're gone!

Yes, it will make you look cool. But, so will a BK11 or BK14 with micarta.

white paper hitachi steel. see the faq :)

very cool :)

Limited run = even cooler!

Thanks for the input, bud.

I've pretty much stopped buying knives from the Snap-On guy. I really dont feel like paying $20-$30 more for a knife just cause it had "Snap-On" on the side. Sure some may look cool with the different colors, but I just couldnt justify the purchase.

He tries all the time with knives and flashlights, but I'm picky. The StrapOn markup is just too much. Kinda funny to hear the prices, sometimes.

I've been eyeballing the Sanmai version for a few months now. Pretty sure this thread, the links in the FAQ sticky (thanks to Bladite), and the fact that I finally got my credit card down to a sane level all add up to me taking the plunge. Thanks for making it an easy decision!

Do I get referral points? :D
Mods, remember that Nadz is helpful when reviewing the Beckerhead # thread haha

This post made me get my BK11CSM out of my car and take it to some wood. Shaves and whittled great. Battoned through some 1.5" pieces of greenish pine with no problem. To be honest, I was going a little rough on the little guy. Cleaned it up. No wear on the blade. Edge was still sharp as hell, but not shaving (it wasn't really shaving before either). Took it to my sharpmaker and had it lightsaber sharp in about five minutes.

Great knife, but the regular BK11 is no slouch either and can take an edge like a crack whore.

Took the plunge, but cheaped out and went with the standard BK 11. While I'm sure the laminated version is sweet, I love the steel (1095) on a TOPS knife I own and would rather stick with a somewhat known factor. Also, the CSM version is made in Japan, and the 1095 is made locally (more or less). Took the money I didn't spend and put it into micarta grips so I don't spend the next three months constantly fussing with a paracord wrap. Now I just have to decide how long I'll wait before dipping it in peel-away and polishing it up.

The fact that you are already considering it, makes me thinks it won't be long.

Yea, I decided to wait a bit on the necker, myself.

Got a Bk2 on the way, instead!
