I am so glad my dear friend and roommate (at shows)
David Mirabile is working in this style
As many of you know David won best fighter of Blade last year with an organic wicked looking piece that garnered a lot of attention but .............as much as I liked that piece I really love his Japanese themed pieces.
He is doing these works of art in a blend of traditional and modern with a tad of organic thrown in. His blade shapes and general fittings are rather traditional but he is mixing carbon fiber and ivory in a way that is truly his own.
Although laminated steel is certainly no stranger to Japanese style blades I believe David is doing something here that will truly set him apart from the rest
He is really on to a style that is truly his own and that in a sea of Japanese influenced blades is a feat in itself
From David
Specs: san-mai, 321 SS / W2,
nagasa~ 8.5"
habaki & seppa ~ copper
tsuba ~ titanium
kashira & kojiri ~ ancient walrus ivory
tsuka & saya ~ carbon fiber over
Alaskan yellow cedar
tsukamaki & sageo ~ carbon fiber
tanto kake ~ ancient walrus jawbone
