Trying to build a set of grips for my son that will Match or at least go with the stock on his Marlin 1895 lever rifle with the gray and black laminated stock. I have been unable to find any material in 1/2 inch thickness. The grips will be for a Ruger Super Black Hawk. So I am looking to see if I can successfully laminate Kydex or Mycarta. Any ideas?

Thanks

Black G -10 ?

Alpha Knife Supply has black/grey laminate g10 in up to .398 inc thickness. They also have plain black G10 in .5 inch.

I would not use kydex as a handle.

Thank you for the reply. I really need the 1/2 inch thickness, that is what the factory grips are.
G10 or micarta is the prefered material by far. I don't know If a suitable finish could be put on kydex to provide enough grip for the .44.

You could laminate two pieces of the black/gray material using a high grade epoxy like west systems G-Flex.
Thanks, I will try laminating the G10. I did not know if it could be done at home since it is a high temp high pressure process to make it.

You can laminate G-10 with West System epoxy (G Flex). Be sure to rough up the mating sides with about 50 grit sandpaper and wipe it clean of sanding dust with acetone. Drill a small hole through both pieces and put a small nail in the hole to keep the pieces aligned. They will want to slide out of alignment when the epoxy is put on.
