Laminating Talonite

Since you guys are the first to put Talonite into a production model, I wonder if you have tried laminating it yet. After all, most of the Talonite in a Cetan (or the knife formerly known as "Quest" :^) ) will never cut anything -- it just forms the support for the edge, so to speak.
With a material as expensive as Talonite, wouldn't it make sense to sandwich a thin sheet of it -- that will form a good edge for as long as the knife is used -- in elemental cobalt, or pretty-good stainless steel or something similar? Or is this not feasible for various reasons?

johnniet,
While laminating TALONITE would certainly cut down on the volume of TALONITE used, we would have the cost of the lamination....this thought caused the heads of our engineers to explode

Besides, one of the great things about TALONITE is the total rust resistance,...and by putting steel back into the equation, we lose that advantage.

Good thought though.......thanks for the interest.

Hmm...that's true as far as steel goes...
although if it were laminated into cobalt it should still be completely rustproof. I don't remember who makes Talonite, but they are already used to processing cobalt, so I would think they would have the right kind of equipment to make some special-order sheets of Cobalt-Talonite-Cobalt, no? (If I am being naive about metallurgy then please take this opportunity for a good laugh!)

Or perhaps Talonite will come down in price once runaway sales of the TALON force the supplier to re-tool for a larger market...:^)

johnniet,
Keep in mind that TALONITE is ALREADY a special order item. The cutlery industry is a 'pimple on the butt' of the rest specialty metals industry. I could only hope that TALON sales would explode to the point that it even made a tiny 'bump' in the chart of cobalt alloy sales.

Thanks again for the interest,
