I will definitely have an izula in my pocket ;) , and if I don't post for a while don't worry, chances are I didn't get lost, I just haven't found the forum yet.

When in doubt, look for your marker ahead and to the left!
Most people change their pace (take shorter steps) when busting brush than taking your 100m pace overland; most people drift right on their bearing over distance.

If you alternate the side you walk around each tree in your path you'll keep your drifting to a minimum.

Good officers listen and take notes of their good NCO's.

 , don't worry when I come in fresh and green, I'll definitely listen to the NCOs whose already had years of experience, ;) I'll make it easier for them to baby sit me for the first year or so until I get the ropes figured out and head the voices of wisdom

Good call. Forgot about him.

Also, listen to the lower enlisted ranks as well. For instance, when I was in Iraq, our generator broke. PFC Frazier was a generator mechanic in his civilian life. While the company XO, who was never a generator mechanic, is looking the thing over, Frazier offers to help, explaining that he knew how to work on these things. XO says "Shut the ---- up and get out of here, private." So, if one of your privates knows more about something than you do, and offers his knowledge in a respectful manner, for God's sake (and your own) listen to him.

Yep sure am.

Nice, good call on the Izula.

Over here the MS IV's have banned fixed blades and are now making a move to limit people to 3" folders.

On a side note, just got off a 5 mile ruck march in the mountains (yep, Ranger Challenge). Definitely not going to carry any uncoated folders in the pocket after that, at least if they haven't been touched up with tuf cloth. My sweat must contain acid or something.

Sorry to hear that Apec, here a lot of the older cadets carry knives so it's all cool and have fun with that ranger challenge

Of the knife knuts we do have though, some of them have some pretty intense stuff. One of my buddies last year carried a Benchmade 42. I met a MS III last semester at Spring FTX who's owned a Microtech Scarab SE/serrated, Protech tactical response auto, Emerson CQC-11, and a William Henry B30-WMPC.
