Landi knives?

I've got one in the mail (PSK), and one to be on order (MPX in A2). Heard some great things about them. John's a great guy to talk to.

I have an MPX. Tuff knives, good ergos, and balance. The edge on mine was a little thick for my taste but I had Siguy convex it and now its sharp as hell.

I actually have it for sale with some custom pants. I will probably regret it but money is tight and I haven't used it alot......

i think john makes great knives... i have an MPS.. i love it.. it's a perfect trail knife...

Thanks for the feedback, I got an opportunity to trade for an MPS in 1095 and am going to do it based on your feedback. Thanks again.

I've e-mailed John about stopping by his shop while in the neighborhood. He's a very nice guy. His shop isn't far from Steubenville,OH (home of Blind Horse Knives) and he is, to the best of my knowledge, a friend of LT from BHK.

LT/BHK was at the Wolverine Knife Show last year. I hope Landi makes it this year as I still need an MPM.

Disappointing. Looks like that's three now that have had a reasonable reputation on this section of the forum that have gone on to shaft folks. In the case of one of them a lot of folks. A sage maker once said that “the hardest knife to make is one you've already been paid for”. And when you see the self-reports of the hand-to-mouth existence of so many of them you've got to be courting disaster by offering money up front. Personally, I see money that has been taken from my account and put in the account of someone else long before the goods show up as a kinda lifestyle loan no matter what the contorted attempt at an excuse for it may be. Stuff 'em. If they need money to prop up their business and a bank won't give it to them let a loan shark take their marker. If you don't know a couple of flat nose blokes that are willing and live local to them why do you want to put yourself in the Shylock seat. Keep your powder dry, innit.

Rant aside from above, the question was on performance for a trade knife not about ordering. I am interested enough to hear about what users have to say about their Landi blades.....(albeit testimonials about knife performance are like asking people what kind of bread makes the best toast)...info about ergos are about the most useful info that can be provided.

I owned two at one point, now down to one. I had a CF handled recurve Bull Maverick, and still have a Duracoat camo Snake Bull. Both blades are 154CM.

Fit and finish on the Bull Maverick could have been better - I had to clean heat treat residue out of the jimping, while there were quite a few splinters and chips around the screws/lanyard holes (Carbon Fiber can be nasty to work with). Sheath was thin, flimsy, and didn't inspire as much confidence as the one that came with my Snake Bull. But the ergos on those knives are good. If you come across one for sale, I recommend getting the milled G10 handled ones, unless you have to have CF.

The Snake Bull is practically a sharpened prybar (7/32" thick off the top of my head). I personally haven't done much with it. Ergos are pretty good, though the handle feels wider than the Bull Maverick's. Somehow I feel the Duracoat blade isn't completely coated, and there's only dark Duracoat applied to the tiger stripes, while the rest is bare beadblasted steel.

I own one of his bushcrafters. Good enough knife, with a great blade shape. The handle is a bit too thin in cross section for my tastes. Gave it to my wife, and it fits her small hands fine.

I have owned the PSKX and the PSK. Both were descent knives, but for the money there are better knives. The biggest complaint was the fit and finish. The fit between the handles and tang could have been better. Also, the handles were extremely thin, thus making the knife difficult to control IMO. Also, the grind on the PSKX was no even.
Needless to say I have unloaded both of them.

I have purchased two knives from John and have had good results each time.

Had to wait a while, but I don't think that there is a custom knife maker around that isn't back ordered a bit if they are any good.

Good deal for the money as well.

Johns knives are nice but for the money I can find better...Check out the knifemaker section here. Jk handmade knives are Sweet John is a great guy to deal with ! Also look at Bryan Breeden he does good work & has some of the best prices going for custom work.
