I received a Lands End Marinac from Santa this Christmas. I'm gonna have to plug LAnds End on this one. This is one great light weight jacket. The material is hard to describe kind of a stretchy rubber fleece like, light and warm. It is cut so a sweater or similar heavy shirt can be worn underneath. The collar is generous enough to flip up to keep the wind off of your neck. It has 2 out side zip pockets. Inside is an EDC dream. It has a cell phone pocket and 2 large zipper pockets. I think if you need a good jacket check thes out. I'm not a big coat person but, this is what I've been looking for. Thought I'd just pass my "review" along to you guys.

I like Lands End stuff. Very good prices and everything I've ever owned by them lasts.

LOL...I got one for Christmas too! Very cool jacket, kinda a poor-mans technical softshell. Nice and stretchy, actually repels a bit of water, windproof membrane, and the pockets are a sweet touch. I really like it, and it a great deal if you can find them. I heard Lands End actually had to buyback many from Sears retailers because the demand from phone and online orders were so high.

We'll see how durable/snag resistant it is, and see how it does on a couple backpacking & geocaching trips. Looks promising for $50.

I was hoping for one, but will have to buy it myself apparently...:p I was wondering how they were, thanks for the review.
I too have lots of Lands' End stuff and really like it.

Yeah...Korea to be specific. But you really can't hit that $50 price point with made in USA materials/construction. Even the REI One ($200) softshell and Mountain Hardwear Alchemy ($250) are imported...

Still a great jacket for the price/features.

Land's End made their name first by producing a really fine line of canvas bags and luggage. I still have a couple that are going on 2o years. They then went on to outdoor clothing. All of their stuff was top quality.

WAS!

Now they market a line of crap made in third world sweat shops. They are still ridding on a reputation made a dozen years ago.

If you like what you are getting form them, then join the hoards of Americans who have been brainwashed into accepting inferior goods - and supporting some of the most currupt and repressive governments in the world at the same time.

In all honesty, there is a HUGE percentage of clothing goods that are made overseas or in Mexico. That's just how it is...it has NOTHING to do with brainwashing.

I buy lots of American made goods, and am proud to pay a higher price for quality and constuction (ARC LS lights for example...)

Now paying $500+ for a North Face jacket or sleeping bag that was made in China, that's pretty silly, IMO. Most high-end (MH, TNF, Marmot) items are produced overseas, as well as much of the mainstream outdoor equpment.

Hell, The North Face is now owned by Vanity Fair

:barf:

Yep, most outdoor clothing is made over seas, even from the higher end technical clothing brands like TNF, Mountain Hardwear, Marmot, etc. I have a few TNF items including a Mtn. Light Parka I just got and I've been very pleased with it so far (I also got it for $200 instead of $350) Quality items can be made overseas, contrary to some peoples beleifs. I would prefer if it was all American made because I like to buy American when I can, but it isn't always possible or practical I'm afraid.

Arc'Teryx stuff is really nice, but a little too pricey for me I'm afraid. It isn't American either, but it is Canadian so that's close enough ;)
